I think most will agree that these 2 are the best freshman (certainly in modern times) in UK history.

Which would would you say was better as a freshman though? I know they played different positions, but thoughts?

Thought it would be an interesting topic.

I love cobb but snell hits people and pushes them backwards. Thats hard to do in the SEC and he's a true freshman.

The Pilsbury Throw Boy has to be in the conversation. Cobb had a very good Freshman season, but nothing close to Snell imo

This is easy in my mind. Its Cobb. The guy did it all, and he didn't have the oline in front of him like Snell. Also, the SEC east was pretty good all around when Cobb was a freshman.

That being said, I love Benny Snell's game.

Cobb did it all, but Snell has been better overall stats wise as a frosh. Cobb's stats as a frosh were good, but he really picked it up as he went on year by year. Snell already has super good stats as a frosh, with his TD total being particularly impressive.

Cobb didn't have as good of numbers, but he also was playing out of position playing QB with minimal talent around him.

Here's what I think:

Cobb played here during the 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 seasons and his overall yards during those 3 years were 2974 yards and 35 touchdowns BUT Cobb played literally every position. RB, QB, WR. You name it and I think that helps him in this argument. He was basically our only offensive pulse in those 3 years.

BUT Cobb's freshman year he only had 513 yards and 9 touchdowns but he was consistent, he did it year in and year out.

Snell has only played in 9 games (about to be 10 vs. UL) and has 1006 yards and 12 touchdowns BUT he doesn't have any receiving touchdowns or yards. Cobb did. Yes, it helps Snell's case because he didn't play in the first two games. Snell has definitely had a better Freshman year than Cobb but I'll look at this argument in 3 years. If Snell can be as consistent as Cobb was over the next 3 years. That'll determine who wins this argument.

I think some are overvaluing Cobb's freshman season compared to Benny's. Cobb was absolutely a special player at UK and one of the greatest ever, but his total stats his freshman year were 316 yards rushing, 197 yards receiving and 542 yards passing (2 TD/5 INT and 52% completion rate). Stats don't tell everything, but they tell part of the story. I'll take a junior Randall Cobb against anyone, but I'll take a freshman Benny Snell against a freshman Cobb every day.

I'll take the politically correct, coach speak approach. Cobb was the best all around Fr and Snell is the best Fr RB.

Two different skill sets. Tough to do a fair comparison. Think I'd take Cobb due to his versatility.

The guy that was his team's best passer, best runner, and best receiver has got my vote.

+ returned punts against Miss State in 2008, where he also played QB and WR. We won the game 14-13 in Starkville. Snell is off to a hell of a start, but Cobb is now in his 5th NFL season, I think it is pretty clear that he was a pretty special player.

Snell is the best freshman RB I can remember ever, even including Moe Williams, Mark Higgs and Sonny Collins, and I saw them all in person many times. Kid has a really bright future.

You certainly are driving home your point, repeating it 4 times [winking]

This forum is goofy sometimes, but good response.

Gezzz not even close at this point. It's Cobb! He played QB, RB, and even a little reciever. Cobb could effect the outcome of the game in a variety of ways.

Love Cobb but have to go with Snell based on just frosh season. Snell is one of toughest runners we've ever had at UK.

Cobb...

Could score from any position on the field.

Benny is a great running back.

Cobb was a play maker where ever you put him. Special teams, RB, Wildcat, WR. Also, he was probably one of the more talented QBs uk has had, he was just too valuable every where else so he wasn't really able to make a career at that position.

He returned 11 punts for 92 yards his Freshman year and did not return kickoffs.

Cobb. Some of you guys don't realize how good he was. He did everything. Can snell pass? Receive? Return punts/kicks?

Cobb wasn't just versatile, he excelled at every position he played. And, he still gets the job done against the best pros in the NFL.

You all realize Cobb was the best QB, RB, WR, Punt Returner and Kick Returner on his team?
