Big coaching news out of Randolph County this afternoon....Asheboro announced Coach Calvin Brown (Providence Grove Athletic Director and HC) as the new Head Coach of the Blue Comets.

Coach Brown really had the Patriots going in the right direction, curious to see how this shakes up the county.

I've heard rumors our guy could be interested in the job after restoring the Bulldogs to a PAC 7 contender.

Trucks dude…
Despite what them mountain folks think Randolph county not exactly “car” drivers…
They wouldn’t want to be a Blue Comet though…
Only thing worse would be transferring to orange/blue
Ugh…
So you think there best option is to transfer to eastern randolph?

to be a conference contender don’t you have to win a conference game?

I can see some improvements but quality wins over some non conference team. ... smh
Wins
Chatham Central 1-10
Forbush 3-7
Jordan Matthews 0-10
Carrboro 4-6

Lost
East Davidson 6-5 (score was 13-42)

Need to step up those non conference games and not play 1A teams to get ready for conference. For example Carrboro scored 92 points all year, say that again 92 points all year!

We improved last year with some quality non conference wins. We will play for a PAC 7 championship in 2023.

Valid points, I got ahead of myself! I got to excited finding this message board and being able to talk some football!

But the wind was taken out of my sails today when I saw our all conference selections on sportstone.

My first post here on this forum. I do not have any firsthand knowledge of any candidates for the PGHS job. I do know this - you cannot build a program from the top down. Calvin Brown did NOT build anything lasting at PG. When you build anything there must be a strong foundation. According to virtually everyone including Brown, there's a huge rebuilding process about to start at PG. If Brown is such a fine coach why is he leaving such a mess? Personally I think it was easier for him to go to Asheboro where he would not have to face his failures to develop players. Time will tell if he can succeed. If he does he will have to rely on a different formula than the one he used at PGHS. At Asheboro he will be forced to develop talent - not something I've seen much of at PG.

Well if you speak for most of the PG fans no wonder he decided to leave...he gave you 3 8 win seasons for a place that is not used to winning, in football especially. Not to mention the patriots scored more points this year against Reidsville than any team they played in playoffs and actually trailed to PG at one point in game (only time trailing until state title)....So if Coach Brown didnt do a good enough job for you where are you thinking you can get someone better?

I speak for myself. I have spoken with several fans that feel like Brown walks on water. I have also talked with many that feel he did little to develop talent.

We have a disaster coming next year. Virtually no one returns on varsity. A very weak sophomore class. A better than average (for us) freshman class and a group of 8th graders who won 1 middle school game last year.

Maybe we will never win another game. But I assure you there are many coaches that would have won with the talent he had. The people at PG had been talking about the senior class since before they played middle school football. The testament of a great coach is winning when your talent is down. What games did PGHS win in his tenure that they weren’t expected to win? There aren’t any.

Well if what your describing is true about the future at PG I doubt even a great coach like Jimmy Teague would stay around for that.

I would disagree with most of this. Thats exactly where you build a program, starting at the top. On the outside looking in, the results speak for themselves. Never seen a coach at any level win without talent.

What is the mess he is leaving?

I can tell you who didn't make it, OUR QB!!

Coach is not to smart on that lack of nomination. Ask all the coaches in PAC 7 and see if there is just one that doesn't pick our kid in there first 5 picks!!

And I heard from a basketball coach that the football coaches pick who they want, they don't have to vote. SMDH.

I’ve always heard you are build EVERYTHING from the bottom up. You’re definitely on the outside looking in.

What mess? He’s taking every coach but 1 or 2 with him. There are only 4 returning starting players and a WR who played sparingly returning. Virtually ever position was backed up with a senior. There‘s only 10 players returning overall with about 9 rising juniors coming up. The rising sophomores have a few talented players but they’re sophomores. The cupboard is bare.

Did they pick any other QBs besides Stratton? Talked to him and he said he made it.

What is the bottom? How do you build if you don't have someone in place at the top to build it?

The issues you're describing here are pretty irrelevant when describing a departing coach, besides the fact he's taking coaches with him.

I dont think you'd see it the same way if yall hire someone that will bring a few coaches with him.

Everybody knows Coach Brown doesn't walk on water. He full-out sprints on water.
