Random Fantasy Football Question....

-Keeper league where we can only keep 2 players from the yr before
-I'm keeping Odell Beckham and Deandre Hopkins
-Guys like Luck, Rogers, Demaryius Thomas are gone for other teams.
-I pick 11th out of 12.......snake draft.
-1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex set up


Sooooo, obviously if a major RB falls to me I'm going to take him.......however, would it be worth it to go WR/WR (which both could be top 5 ranked WR's) with the first two picks? Or should I go ahead and take an RB (or two) even though they aren't going to be great?

Question: Do you HAVE to keep 2? If not I cut Hopkins quick and see if you can get an earlier pick. You have no one better than Hopkins? You really need a RB at 11 and another one coming back through

In order to keep someone (max of 2 players) you must sacrifice your draft pick 2 rds higher than you picked them last yr. It sounds really complicated, but it's rather a neat little addition.

For example:
-I picked Hopkins in the 7th rd of last yr's draft. I now give up a 5th rd pick to keep him. If I want to keep him for next yr, I'll have to give up a 3rd.
-I give up a 13th rd pick for ODB this yr.


Of course, I don't have to keep Hopkins......I can just keep ODB, but a 5th for Hopkins is actually good value. He'd be worth a 2nd-3rd pick if Houston had a QB.

The issue that I have with when running my mocks is that I'm facing a decision.
-1st round - Do I choose someone like CJ Anderson.....who's probably projected at around 200 pts or go with Dez Bryant who's easily going to eclipse 200 yrs?

-2nd round - Do I go after someone like Hill who's likely to get around 190-200 pts......or go after Megatron if he falls?

RB/RB or RB/WR

You need at least 1 go to RB and waiting for the 3rd or 4th round will leave you nothing!

Not always. You can get RB's in the 3-4th rd that produce like 3-4th re WRs. And every year there are 3-4 RBs who come out of nowhere to produce really well...which you can pick up as free agents.

You can take 1 WR with those 1st 2 picks. But if you take 2 then you are making Hopkins a bench player and not worth the 5th your losing. Another way to look at that is how much of an upgrade is that 2nd WR than Hopkins (probably not much).
Gronk could be an option there for you. You could even consider Luck, although I probably wouldn't.

WR are more consistent year to year than RB.

#1 rb's are a lot more in demand than #1 wr's. I would go RB/RB. Hopkins is a breakout candidate and Beckham is a future stud. There are only a handful of rb's who do not share the load, as teams are more and more going to the by committee approach. The whole key to winning a league in any draft whether it be snake, auction or what ever, is finding the guys who you draft in the later rounds or say get for $1 or $2 in auction leagues. Emmanuel Sanders last year with Jeremy Macklin, and Antonio Brown a few years ago was crucial to me making it deep in the playoffs. Champ last year, runner up with Brown a few years ago. It is easy picking best available, but finding the gems is where you win or lose. SO I would pick the best rb's as wr's can be had, every team has a #1 wr, not every team has a stud #1 rb. I think Andrae Johnson has a monster year in Indy, he may go a little under the radar.

Yes for depth your right, but for an actual go to starter you couldn't be more wrong. You want at least 1 guy at RB that every week is plugged in so your not over/under thinking and opening yourself to bad management decisions.

Thanks guys. I've always gone RBs early in he past and have always done well. I was just trying to rationalize the thought of having ODB, Megatron, and Jones/Bryant on my team. My goodness. There'd be weeks where my 2 WR and 1 flex position would win games for me by themselves.

In your situation, I think you have to take at least 1 RB in those first 2 picks. But you shouldn't feel like you have to take 2 (RB/RB). This advice is coming from someone who almost never goes RB/RB. I've gone WR/WR and WR/TE as many times as I've gone RB/RB. After the top 5-6 RBs, the rest are a craps-shoot. The top WRs are more consistent than the 2nd tier RBs! But like I said earlier, in your case, even a 2nd tier RB will likely have more value to you than a WR who is only a slight upgrade over Hopkins (whom you would bench if you went WR/WR).

I have a similar type delima. We can keep 2 players, losing the pick from the round prior to when we picked them the prior year. And they have to be 2 different positions (so can't keep 2 RBs). I can keep Ellington or L.Murray as my RB, leaning towards Ellington. And I can keep K.Allen at WR. All 3 would cost only end of the draft picks. My delima is this, I think I can trade the rights to keep Ellington or Murray for the rights to keep Jeffrey, then I would be able to keep the RB I didn't trade and Jeffery. Jeffery however would cost an 8th round pick.
So without the trade, I would have Ellington & Allen & no 15th or 16th round picks.
Or with the trade, I would have Ellington & Jeffrey and no 8th or 16th round picks.

Is the upgrade from Allen to Jeffery, worth losing the 8th round pick (vs 15th round pick)?
Given the keeper rules, that 8th round pick is like a 10th round pick in a league without keepers (so at a point where I'd take my TE, 2nd QB, 4th RB, or 4th WR). I'm thinking it is worth it, but not by a lot.
