Cowboys' Randy Gregory facing year-long suspension
The Cowboys defensive end has failed another drug test and is facing a year-long suspension, sources informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Gregory served a four-game suspension to start the season for his first substance abuse violation and is currently serving a 10-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy for a second time. Per the league's drug policy, Gregory's next suspension will be for a full year.
Gregory was originally eligible to come back next month. Now, should he appeal his latest suspension and lose, he won't play this season.
The NFL said in a statement, "The league has not been notified of any new violations."
Stephen Jones, the Cowboys' executive vice president and chief operating officer, made it clear months ago that the second-year edge rusher was on thin ice.
"This is a disappointment," Jones said after Gregory was suspended four games in February. "We have been clear with Randy about what his responsibilities are and what is expected of him. This is something that he is going to have to work through and correct."

I sure don't. Guy is a dumber Aldon Smith, which I wasn't sure was even possible.
Until he decides he wants help and more than just going through the motions, he will be who he is now. Wasted talent.
I dont. Unlike most addicts, he has limitless support and finances backing his struggle with drugs. Josh Gordon 2.0. Bounce him now. i would prefer not to hear about him with the Cowboys anymore. They get enough coverage as it is......and I am a lifelong Cowboy fan. Now, back to Dak or Romo talk!!!

I'm afraid Pelini doesn't have much to do with this. Mr. Gregory has been making his own bed for quite awhile now.
Can you imagine how much of a joke team rules must have been when "star" of the team Gregory was allowed to get away with smoking dope all of the time? No wonder Bo's teams didn't hang together when the going got tough.
Can't have two sets of rules for players and have great team chemistry. Doesn't work that way.

I know they can hair test for weed that goes back 7 years, and blood test that goes back 2 to 3 months. where if you test for alcohol its like a 24 hour deal.

I'm surprised they haven't come up with a test that just goes thru the season, then players can do what they want off season.

If he would have just stuck with the Nebraska ditch weed he wouldn't be in trouble. It might take half an ounce to catch a buzz but the only thing you will test positive for is Roundup/
What level of heroin or coke should they test for ? Ok with genetic testing for levels of susceptibility ? A note from their mom ?
I read an article that the majority of league's owners are ok with medicinal use as well. They should be, considering half of the US has okayed it.
Unless the dude is stoned (and even if he is) during the game, I don't see the problem. If his performance suffers because of it, then that problem will take care of itself.
And lol at people saying his addiction has got the better of him. Those saying that simply do not understand. They drink to excess and destroy their bodies, yet, a dude who likes weed is vilified.

1) weed is no worse than alcohol. Maybe even better. It is dumb that the government picks and chooses which mild drugs are illegal and are not. For anyone who drinks alcohol and condemns him for weed, look in the mirror.
2) if you know your company (or team or league) that pays you millions of dollars has a rule against smoking weed (or other drugs) and you still do it, you've got a major addiction or you're just stupid. I won't claim to know which one. Maybe both.

Exactly,well said. Maybe Gregory doesn't LOVE football?? I played with an unbelievably talented linebacker that quit after his junior year because he just didn't like the practice and weight room work... dude was legit D1 material
He will get a chance as a bottom feed now with minimum dollars with some club. He has too much talent for NFL to totally ignore. Assuming he fails again then time for the soup kitchen.
Physically, no. Psychologically, perhaps. The overall research still had not arrived at a consensus.
Marijuana is nothing like heroin, cocaine, alcohol, etc. Many researchers say we should lump marijuana with tobacco/cigarettes - as the worst-case scenario is a user gets lung or throat cancer (marijuana has not been proven as a carcinogen, unlike half the substances and food we ingest daily), or gets pulled over for driving too slow.
I'm not even sure he'll get that. He hasn't played in a long while, and even with a lot of talent you have to stay in some kind of shape to play.
I doubt it. Randy had a hard time putting weight on at NU and was down as low as 220 at one point.
