Ranking for Clemson

What have we seen on the field that explains Clemson's #2 ranking? Struggled with Auburn and now Troy. Should a team get the benefit of a preseason ranking just because they don't lose?

Troy has not looked great today. Many mistakes and bad play, yet they are down 3 with 8:30 to go in the third.
