I'll love Mannie forever for 400 Degreez, no doubt he was great most of the time....but DJ Paul and Juicy J win out there in a landslide.

Meh, they're all awesome.

Funny that Mash talks about a "formula" though as if that's a bad thing -- b/c that's exactly what the entire 3/6 crew sound is, although a great one.

True, but they were more diverse, and their careeer was wayyyyy longer.

Just stop. This isn't good. 3-6 is old school.

But I am curious as to what y'all were listening to during that late 90's/early 2000 period. It was a semi weird time from what I remember. I had jay Z, I had Cash money, and I had remnants of UGK and Three Six hit it big. But **** was trending downward...to ATL, to the beginnings of the swag movement. I can't really remember what relevant rappers were born in that era....I don't feel like it was good, and that's one reason why Project was so damn crucial during that time. Gangsta rap was dead as ****. Grimy wasn't in. It was all bling bling and shiny shoes. F that. Project filled that much needed void...

That's how I remember it. What else was really hot during that time?

Mostly just Petey Pablo

Dungeon Family stuff, Three Six, CMR, Jay, 50, Lil Jon productions, Fab, Neptunes sounds everywhere -- that was college, so I listened to whatever got the hoes dancing. Was definitely a bit of a transition period in hip hop.

Project Pat is fine, but he didn't "fill" **** in hip hop. [laughing] Good grief.

Yes. 50, Em...Game came along.

Look, three six bridged that gap from ugk to modern rap times, and you got to respect it. Period. Only ones doing it, and it was not popular as BBdK is so happy to point out. **** was banging, and you missed out on so many classic beats if you weren't tuned in.

krazykats sucks at Rap. You seriously pick the worst songs off each album, it's weird.

So we aren't arguing project pat vs manny/CMR good call really.

Who is the best from CMR? I always was drawn more to BG but that was because of the Chopper City album mostly, and then get your shine, living legend etc etc.

Juvy had 1 record and Wayne was good/great but I didn't follow them like I did BG. Plus my time doing young dumb **** and BG actually knew real dudes here in my city. Of course I didn't know those same people and would never claim that but a few people I knew did and that always seemed "cool" then.

I agree Manny/BG really was better than BG by himself. Still think he was better than Wayne/Juvy.

Not correct. Better do your homework. Mf'er was in with No Limit.

Argue that.

Mannie? or whoever did most of NL work...KLC/dogg pound? And I pick Mannie, but it's probably a worthy debate if I knew a little more about NL production.

And I could probably easily be swayed to the NL side because they were raw and they were first, and leaned more to the gangster side.

Beats by the Pound. KLC was the main dude, but Craig B/MoBDick were made underrated. BG hardly did **** with No Limit -- all his best stuff, and every song you posted was CMR/Mannie.

Nobody on this planet can tell me anything about No Limit, including Percy. I was an official NL Solider & Tank Dawg.

Mannie Fresh >>>>>> KLC. BBTP had 1-2 bangers per album, and the rest was lazy filler.

There is a great 4-5 part YouTube battle with them that's a good watch.

I don't remember a single thing about and CMR and NL being on same songs. Honestly don't remember anything but Soulja Slim being cool with both until Mystikal recently signed with CMR.

I also don't remember any beef either but always thought the skits were poking fun of each other.

After mannie it was essentially like BBdK said - few bangers, rest weak.

No **** he didn't work with NL while he was on Cash Money.

Currensy Spitta said NL and CMB weren't friendly because Birdman and P weren't, and the lil guys didn't know why. No beef, but it was understood the two were not to fraternize. I can't imagine those two personalities ever getting along for an reason. I would buy a ticket to watch them sit down and just talk. That would be hilarious.

I'll tell you who really sucked after cash money - mannie lmaooooo.

Currently signed to Def Jam South. Dropped a 2009 solo album titled "Return of the Ballin". Woof.

From what I always understood it was because Baby and his brother approached P about helping them or putting them on and P turned it down because he had a bunch of hot street dudes already and didn't need more from another block.

Infamously been quoted as saying all money ain't good money and therefore Baby didn't really feel appreciated and felt disrespected.

25 years later Baby is ripping off every artist he has had over the years so P while losing short term still has a good name and Baby is losing that every day.

Admittedly I missed a lot of Luda's stuff. He was very radio and I just didn't really listen to the radio at the time.

But when it comes to downsouth I'll take Youngbloodz for best beat, maybe ever!

Although this is really sick too

Luda was a smart mf'er who burst on the scene with stupid beats from the feature. Smart dude. Made big hits. Moved on. Also a big three six fan, and worked with them. UGK, too.

Southern Hospitality and Bia Bia were the absolute ****.

He was a smart mf'er. He came in a d killed it, then got that Paul Walker money. He made a lot of hits back to back to back to back.
