Coach Kellen Moore named Rattler the Saints' Week 1 starting quarterback Tuesday, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
The NFL's final QB competition finally has reached its conclusion, at least to begin the 2025 campaign, as Rattler has beat out rookie second-round pick Tyler Shough. In seven games (six starts) as a 2024 fifth-rounder last season, Rattler completed 130 of 228 passes (57 percent) for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions, had 18 carries for 146 yards and fumbled five times (three lost).

I’m very happy for him and excited for his opportunity. I hope they really stick with him as a starter and give him the chance to actually develop instead of just yanking him with the other QBs in and out all season long. I don’t think Saints fans are very excited.

The Saints got bad fast. I remember Archie Manning going to pro bowls while having the absolute crap beat out of him. I hope better for Spencer.

The Aints have longer odds than the Panthers to make the Super Bowl! Wow

Well he was 0-6 as a starter last year, so that probably explains that, but I'm excited to have a former Gamecock QB starting week 1 in the NFL, and hope he gets that first NFL W.
It's hard to judge b/c they were overall so bad as a team. How would Spencer look with a good OL and good WRs? Probably better, I'd imagine.

But them's the breaks I suppose.

Not sure how much better they are O Line but yeah he got pulverized some games.

Given Arch Manning is form Louisiana, it would not surprise me if the ownership wants the # 1 pick next year. Hopefully Spencer busts that up by getting some wins.

They did take a OL in the first round but probably needed some more

  • Round 1 • Pick 9 (9) • OT Kelvin Banks Jr.
  • Round 2 • Pick 8 (40) • QB Tyler Shough.
  • Round 3 • Pick 7 (71) • DT Vernon Broughton.
  • Round 3 • Pick 29 (93) • SAF Jonas Sanker.
  • Round 4 • Pick 10 (112) • LB Danny Stutsman.
  • Round 4 • Pick 29 (131) • CB Quincy Riley.
  • Round 6 • Pick 8 (184) • RB Devin Neal.
