That really is a head-scratcher. I could maybe see giving him an extension at the end of the season if he goes on to have a good year, but racing to sign him to an extension mid-season? At 6-2? This season could still go a lot of different ways.

I assume it's due to the PSU opening, but still. It's an odd look. Same program that decided a 58-19 record wasn't good to keep Solich from getting fired.

I would welcome Rhule minus the Satterfields TODAY. Forget the pros. At 3 schools, his records improved EVERY year. Hell, I might even accept the Satterfields to replace Beamer with Rhule.

I honestly don't know why Penn State would want him - regardless of his background with them. What are the honest odds that he would prove to be worth firing Franklin for?

That would not be wise.
I know it would not. That being said, Rhule is a good college coach. In his last 2 seasons (3rd and 4th years) at Temple, he went 20-7. In his 3rd and final season at Baylor, he went 11-3. In this, his 3rd season at Nebraska he is 6-2. His record improved each year at those schools. I wish we could say the same about Nepo Baby Beamer.

Would not have to accept Satterfield. Rhule was dumb enough to hire him but unlike Beamer wised up and demoted him during their 2nd season there.
I know. You are right. I believe that we all wish that Nepo Baby Beamer had Rhule's results. Maybe if Beamer is fired next year, we will get a real Head Coach, not a cheerleader. Then again, maybe Beamer will begin turning this thing around starting tomorrow.

At this point I don’t think either of those will happen but given what we know it’s time for someone else to try.

I don't think he'll lift Penn State like Penn State wants to be lifted.

Agreed. Penn State fired Franklin because they want to win another national championship. Nebraska gave Rhule an extension because they are happy to have gotten their 6th win this year.

Weird landscape. Perennial powerhouse programs are trying to capture glory of years gone by. Likely no more dynasties, at least for now.

Many questioned why Georgia fired Richt, who averaged 9-10 wins/season but could not get over the hump. Worked out well in that case, though. I'm no insider, but it appears Carolina's pursuit of Smart hastened the decision to dismiss Richt.
