During the Cold War, Reagan eschewed Detente, mutually assured destruction. He decided the U.S. Would pursue a new policy, essentially "we win, you lose." He ramped up defense spending, invested in missile defense, turned away from a bad deal in Iceland. The Soviet Union eventually succumbed to our strength.
In Iran, their economy is a mess. Oil prices are cratering. Iran needs oil at $130/bbl. to sustain its economy. We have them in a terrible, untenable position. Yet, Obama delists Iran as a terror state and decides to take our boot off their throat and ease the sanctions.
