I think it’s a weird blend of motivations. Willie seems to influence a lot of the match ups, and he’s in it for the best in mat product. I think they are cultivating a USA vs World thing. But then you get the Henschel matchup which is all about activating a demographic for eyeballs. The PSU vs Downey storyline is also with that as a driver I think. They’re trying to apply the lessons of story, marketing and production from WWE & UFC to wrestling, while maintaining a purity aspect too. Jury is out on whether it will work. But seems like a serious try, with substantial backing, which is refreshing in a way. What I don’t understand is this. If a fan wants to see freestyle wrestling, why wouldn’t we just go to the national team trials or the U.S. Open or Bill Farrell and such? There are plenty of tickets for those.
Or, is RAF saying that their product is better? Is it really better? In what way is it better? If it is better, then how come I have never heard of half of the people in RAF?
I’m not trying to make a point. I really want to know the sales pitch of RAF to the customer.
