With the previous two OC's lasting only three years total and being effectively run out of town and with the pressure on Stoops, I think there are three types of coaches that will be interested in UK's job.

1) Reclamation project. This coach will have succes on his resume but was fired from last job or has other baggage.
2) Old fart. This coach is long in the tooth, maybe a family friend, but interested in one last rodeo.
3) Young gun. Not really proven. But successful at a lower level or on a successful team at a lesser capacity.

Stoops first two attempts were from category three. Nobody was particularly pleased with those results. Category one is definitely high risk and reward.
I would like someone from category two. Some steadiness would be nice. Also all the recruiting in the world doesn't seem to matter a whole lot if you can't coach them up.

can you think of any successful examples of category 2 tried elsewhere for OC?

category 3 sounds just like MS and DJ Elliot!! Think Stoops would have even been considered for hiring here if his name where Mark Johnson instead of Stoops?

So Neal Brown was forced to take a HC job? All righty then.

So taking a HC position is being run out of town?

Come on, faucet. OP is on a roll. Don't let facts get in the way on a message board.

My expectation? Someone that knows how to get a first down on 4th and 1 when your entire season hangs in the balance.

Other than that, I'm not really particular.

Was the consensus of the fan base disappointed or happy that he left? If you felt I was implying that bricks were being thrown through his windows then I apologize. I think you would have to admit that being sold an "Air Raid " offense which turned out to be 2 years of offense seemingly based on QB runs led to a certain amount of dissatisfaction.
