Baseballguy really kept this forum up to date with info.

What is our overall record?

Do we have a rotation that is emerging?

Any injury/recovery from injury news?

I'll admit to being in full hoops mode right now, but as soon as that is over, I'll be jumping into baseball mode pretty quick (with some solid spring football now that BP has opened things up there too). Just wanting to keep a finger on the pulse while March Madness gears up.

Yeah, I miss him too!

We are 10-4, which doesn't sound bad but we have dropped home games to a losing Miami (OH) and Western Michigan at home. We have lost 3 games at home including a loss to IU, but they are ranked. We had to replace all of our weekend starters from last year with Filomeno (Friday starter), Funkhouser (Saturday) and Ruxer (Sunday). Funk seems to be our ace and has already had a game with 10 ks. Ruxer seems to be back in form as when he was a FR and is 3-1. No way to say this any other way, Filomeno has been roughed up, only lasting 1.1 innings his last outing. He's got great stuff but maybe better as a relief guy like last year. I think the speculation is that when Kidston is fully 100%, he may take over the Friday starts.

Offense has been really good at times with Gardner off to a hot start, 3 HRs and a little pop from Rosenbaum. Kay (juco guy) has hit 2 hrs and needs to be in lineup. We have jumbled the outfield lineup as we moved Sturgeon to CF from RF. I guess White has not shown he can hit consistently. We have a few guys with experience Lucas and Chittenden but have struggled at the plate. We have a strong bullpen with Burdi on the back end but we are either winning really big or lost (not big) but certainly not in a situation where we used him.

Baseball is a funny sport but we need to solidify the rotation and we need guys to start producing more consistently.

Thanks nccardfan ...

Great report.

Baseball takes time. In the past, I'd get really worried over a start like this. But Dan has shown that he gets his team hitting on all cylinders by the end of the regular season, so I'm not concerned about the slow start.

We'll get it figured out.

(I also think that cold weather does play a part in these slow starts, which you won't hear from anyone connected to the program. But you can't tell me that it's easy to play outdoors in Louisville in February.)

Cards playing a DH today against Western Illinois. Won the 1st game 8-0 as Anthony Kidston gets his 1st start. He went 3 innings and struck out 4, only gave up 1 hit 2 BB's. Kyle McGrath came in and pitched 5 strong innings and Zack Burdi finished but no save situation. Lucas and Gibson had 2 hits each and Kay had 1 hit but 2 rbis. Cards are now 11-4.
