The second year for this event went well overall I feel. Good numbers (100 OL/DL 15 K and roughly 240 skills) and overall very good level of competition. I make this disclaimer every year from these events....I do my best to watch 100-200 kids at a time however I can and will miss some kids. Throw in the fact that I'm also co-host and have multiple responsibilities and you get a better idea of how stretched I am at events like this one. No excuse just making sure it's known and I make this known upfront.
103- DT Denver Warren West Aurora- only a freshman...played at Aurora Christian then transferred over to West Aurora for the spring. Was easily one of the best overall DT's at this event. Great size/strength/power and good quickness. Used his hands well. Still has growth and needs to improve technique but that will come. Insane that this kid is only a freshman upside in enormous.
113 Jalen Rheams Brother Rice DL- sophomore good sized kid looked solid in one on ones. Again was one of several impressive younger DL here.
102 Khlyran Monroe Evanston DL- again another freshman with a big body and a lot of upside. Still has a lot to learn but is a name to watch early on in 2020 class.
107 Daniel Lester Vernon Hills DL- junior who looked solid in drill work. Good size strength and moved well.
69 Andres Mendez Washington DL- another sophomore here. Good size kid with height and length. Pretty mobile overall and also battled well in one on ones. One of a handful of Panthers who opened some eyes here.
5 Evan Kirtz Brother Rice DL- sophomore again here. Bigger kid longer and also just a big body with real upside physically. Needs to improve overall DL skills and technique but again has real upsiude and is a name to watch.
251 Braxton Mays Aurora Christian DL- junior DL was arguably one of the Top 5-7 DL here. Good sized kid good strength and power. Is also a bit more refined when if comes to technique/hands and also has decent quickness.
1 Bryce Hellgeth St. Viator K/QB- was a duble session guy javing kicked in the AM then played QB in PM. Won the ovrrall Kicking distance and accuracy title and kicked a 56 yarder in the final round to win. Huge leg and kickers kicked off either a one inch tee or on the ground here. Also looked solid at QB in the PM but I feel Bryce's kicking will be his ticket.
334 Aidan Avalos Oswego K- junior kicker also performed well here was one of the top 3 finalist. Huge power here.
332 Adam Jayco Johnsburg K- junior kicker who I saw live last season. Already getting great leg off the ground and also accuracy. Was another Top 3 finisher who also had 50 yard plus range.
327 Sam Rutherford New Trier K- again another junior with just an overall impressive leg here.
96 Anthony Manaves St. Patrick DL- sophomore with a good mix of size and power. Played with a chip and was a tough kid to handle in sdrills and one on ones.
75 Addison West Cary-Grove OL- just a sophomore. Will just get better from here on out. His overall technique is very polished, has good size and strong base. Will get bigger/stronger and better from here on out.
60 Nathan Korte Morris OL- junior OL for the Redskins. Has good size/length and also just battled all comers. Liked the fact that Korte kept working and seemed to improve from rep to rep and also came back for more.
67 Austin Glazier Fenwick OL- has a chance to be an elite level OT in the Class of 2018. Has length size and reach. Good feet quickness and hands. Needs to add a bit more strength but that will come with maturing and development. Moved better in person than I expected.
68 Aaron Byrd Bradley OL- looks to be more on a OG at the next level in person on the hoof. Just a pretty solid overall player here. Moves well in good shape as well. Good size/frame who will add more weight/size but will need a bit more strength for the college level but overall? Very strong overall name to watch here and a very hard nosed competitor as well.
88 Jimmy Wormsley Jacobs OL- seems like I've been watching Jimmy for like 8 years now
this kid is just a seasoned player who is always consistently good. Will be an OG/OC at the college level battles all comers can and will flip that all important pissed off switch when needed. Great strength and balance and also has good feet. Never seems to get overwhelmed and never seems to get rattled the few times someone beats him. The kid just ges back to work.
11 Dalton Tevis NCHS DE- good overall athlete here. Has a nice mix of speed/quickness and technique. Has good size and strength and will also have the ability to get stronger down the line. Also seemed to get more and more comfortable the longer the showcase went on.
49 Alex Solak Menasha HS Wisc OL- only a sophomore and I try to focus only on Illinois kids...but Solak was pretty dominant in the younger group then more than handled himself with the junior top level kids. One of several impressive Wisconsin kids in attendane.
141 Brett Groves Cary-Grove OL- junior OT has great size and upside. Was impressed with Groves last summer at the Willowbrook satellite camp and he has progressed well. Needs to get a big stronger but isn't too far of from being one of the top level names at OT in the Illinois class of 2018.
167 DeAndre Johnson Phillips DE- again another impressive younger defensive linemen. Johnson has very impressive speed/quickness and strength as well. Already is physically mature and will be a handful for several OL's to handle in this setting. No question a big name to watch in 2019 class.
207 Derek Wentworth Minooka OL- took a while to get into the flow of one on ones but them got more comfortable and better after his first rep. Will be strictly an interior OL at the college level. Would also like to see Wentworth takes some reps se a DL? Looks to have that frame/skill set.
199 Tommy Syron Plain Central OL- haven't seen a lot of Plain Cent kids at my events but Syron was solid here. Decent size more of an OG type. Good overall quickness.feet and looks very fluid and strong in drill work.
223 Isaiah Lee Nazareth Academy DT- junior DT was dominant and easily the best DT here. Good strength quickness and burst. Also highly advanced pass rush skills here...something you seldom see from high school level interior Dlinemen. Has terrific lower body/base and real power in his legs. Also impressive hands and hand fough as well as any DL here. Could become a higher level D1 kid.
276 Will Christopher North Mac OL- junior 3A kid from downstate. I really liked his video and was glad to get to see him in person. Did some good and needs to work on some things. Has good size (more of an OG body frame?) and did well in positional drill work. Needs to improve his feet/quickness but it's not a huge red flag whatsoever. Was on and off in some one on one reps yet kept battling. Will just get better from here on out and was also a quick learner per coaches in various pass pro work. A name to watch over the next 12 months.
266 Conner Cahill St. Rita OL- junior offensive linemen looked good in positional work. Definitely more of an OC at the next level and was a battler in one on ones.
211 Kevin Skonning Lyons Township OL- junior OL has size and sterength and was again good in a very good overall positional grouping. Needs to improve his overall quickness and agility but has potential.
51 Noaln Eike Batavia OL- junior OL tall and long lanky kid who has good overall and and ability. Uses his hands well and also has really impressive technique. Needs to add a bit more strength and power yet the base and the frame is there for more growth and upside down the road.
92 Nathan Lugo Nazareth Academy DL- Easily the biggest of the Lugos on the hoof. Only a sophomore Nathan has good size and overall tools. Has real upside and is a name I'll keep an eye on in 2017. Is now like the 15th Lugo to attend my events...
Will add a few more soon. Next up will be PM session/skills
