It really just depends on what you want.

Do you want 8 wins a season with the occasional scheduling break to get you to that 10 win plateau with most seasons leaving you competitive with but always falling short against the top tier teams?.................Is that enough to perpetually satisfy the common paying fan?

Or do you wanna be Indiana pre-Curt Cignetti?.........Or do you want to be Indiana with Curt Cignetti?

Iowa hasn't won a conference title in 22 years. That's now longer than the drought between the dark ages of the 60s-70s and Hayden. We haven't actually been competitive in a meaningful game FOR a B10 title in 11 years (2015).

But hey, as long as we can reel in all the top recruits winning 8 games a year and say we're doing the same thing as Alabam, Ohio State and Georgia then by golly if that's good enough for a couple middle-aged and/or senior citizens amongst our fanbase, then that should be good enough for everyone! 😃😃😃

It's all about what you want........

Friends? 😃
Winning the B1G is basically like winning a national championship in this day and age FWIW

That's the sole reason college football exists my man. Entertainment pays the bills. Take fans and TV away and watch how quickly it ceases to exist.
No, entertainment is not the sole reason college football exists. And I've explained this to you before.

College sports are activities to help educate young people.

Entertainment may now be a part of it. But the players and coaches aren't involved to be entertainers. They're involved in football to be able to compete.

They play football for what it means to them. If it happens to entertain others, so be it. But an event that's played to be won, is what fans have chosen for their entertainment. They aren't watching entertainers. They're watching football players.

So no, fans don't deserve anything in terms of their level of entertainment. The objective of the players and coaches, is to win

A sport turning into entertainment is what’s doomed the nba and the nfl. They are morphing into the wwe, pure entertainment. you could argue mma is doing the same with the deemphasis of grappling and the promotion of stand up/kickboxing For sake of entertainment ticket sales.

pure competition should be pure competition not entertainment. nba is no defense, no traveling called garbage. the nfl is getting shady as hell.

Educating young people is a thing at non-scholarship level. The D1 revenue sports are the domain of paid free agents. You are living in the past

Your stated point is that college sports are activities to educate young people. Your words, not mine.
Do you even know what you write?
Did you bother reading the rest of the post? The point of the post is quite clear.

Did you bother reading my first post in the thread, where my point originated, and before Burg brought up college football as an entertainment industry?

I'm not going to take the time to explain. You guys have gotten ridiculous with this stuff. Reading through it again should suffice

You made the point that college sports do not exist to entertain people but to educate young people. That is true at St Ambrose. That is not true at the University of Iowa. 70,000 people wouldn't show up at Kinnick to hear student athletes take turns discussing what they learned in class that week.

I'm a wrestling board guy, but is this guy stuck in 1985?
Stuck in delusion, actually. If I were you, I'd run, because these are his beliefs:
-Passing is evil
-Questioning/disagreeing with the coaching staff in any capacity is objectively wrong
-All wins are equal, no matter what whether it be beating Albany or winning the National Championship
-Fans are evil and deserve nothing
-Wanting anything more than what we have now is objectively wrong

He admitted to being here just to police fans, which is why I not only muted him, but also made a custom CSS code to make his posts disappear. My board experience has been much better ever since.

"Wanting anything more", as I've kind of discussed in this very thread, and pretty much nowhere else? And what do you know, those comments were in response to your post about "fans deserving more".

And supposedly you have me deleted. 🤣

You really aren't very bright.

I can't believe people didn't call you out a few weeks ago, when you exposed yourself. It was so obvious to anyone who would have cared/been paying attention.

You brought that up, did you bother to read what you wrote? Go ahead and get your last word in about how your exact quote of "Fans don't ever deserve to be more entertained, because the players and coaches aren't playing for the purpose of entertaining fans" weren't actually your words or the first post you made in this thread when I'll be damned if post #6 isn't the first post you made in this thread or the first time fan entertainment was brought up. Dingus.

And you turned that into talking about college football as an entertainment INDUSTRY, which Grayhair continued to comment about in terms of a revenue business.

Neither have to do with my point that players and coaches are playing to win, not entertain. Thus, fans don't deserve anything from them, in terms of entertainment

Takes like that are why I removed him from my view. Glad I dont have to read that drivel anymore. Just goes back to my point that he always said that he believes fans deserve nothing, every time anyone mentioned any kind of criticism of the program.

Ultimately players are here to improve their skills to make it into the League to make some serious cash. Sure, they can learn a few thing along the way about being a better person, but they all have dreams to play for big money in the NFL. That's why they play, and it's all entertainment, which is why we call it a game.

Holy ****!

Now you're clearly rebutting me having called you out for pretending to have me deleted me, by saying, "(I) always said....fans deserve nothing".

Holy hell this is hilarious! Is anybody else not noticing this?

You're glad to not have to read my drivel anymore. But you continue to talk about me and my sentiments (as well as you are able to comprehend them) all the time. Yeah sure, dude

Here's another not-so-random one.

Big dreams to play in the NFL. That's why they play, huh?

Well besides the fact that that's a ridiculous claim, I'm the only one in the thread that has spoken about why players play. So we're to believe that you're also just randomly sharing your thoughts on why players play?

The fact that you keep telling people you have me deleted is weird. But to be pretending to have me deleted...🤣..., I honestly don't have a word for. My vocabulary just is not that big

Can't let you off the hook this time, 2D.

This might be the most epic stuff in the history of message boards.

I truly felt sorry for you for a while. But I'm not that big of a man. And honestly, unless you are autistic, you deserve to be called out

I’m pretty sure he’s just a troll. I thought he was serious for a while but then he managed to completely derail a thread by saying that it’s “Manila” instead of “vanilla” when you call something basic. He managed to drag that argument out for like 4 or 5 pages in that thread.

I gotta hand it to him, he’s pretty good at trolling. Maybe the best I’ve ever seen tbh.

That was epic. He went from saying “Sportscasters in the ‘80s” used the term manila, to he heard it “occasionally”, to only hearing it “a couple of times.” Of course he refused to admit that MAYBE he misheard what the announcer said. That just wasn’t a possibility.

He took a real beating in that thread.

Haha they almost covered in that 29 pt loss…
Yep, can't win them all, boys. I know that's surprising, given my accuracy on here over the years.

I saw this game as a possible inflection point for Chicago. Never love laying points with a bad team on the road. But thought Chicago might bring their best effort tonight, after blowing a big lead vs Dallas. But pretty concerned for them, after tonight's performance. Probably time to look for spots to fade Chicago. Definitely won't be looking to bet on them anytime soon.

Managed to have a nice day in baseball, though. So that's good.

Also had Fever 3rd Q.

And just got in on Dallas 3rd Q. So wish me luck

Having a pet peeve makes me a troll?

Believe me, I take no pleasure in being called the best troll you've ever seen.

I'm just a guy who gives coaches the benefit of the doubt, hates a good deal of sports fans (fan behavior), and wants fans to simply be supportive, giving the Hawks their best chance of winning

Stop.

Not even going to waste the time you. You aren't that dumb. And my point in this thread was expressed plenty clearly enough.

Have fun with yourself. To actually be that stupid, would be much more respectable. But the fact that you seem to get a kick out of this, is pure garbage
