I remember being sort of excited when Penn State joined the B1G, for bball reasons. Like we might he able to beat them regularly. 30 years later, they are 36-19 vs the Cats. Against the rest of the league, they are something like 126-319. (Did this all manually so might be slightly off.) This is a basketball program that is arguably as bad as ours, and they dominate us.

The Penn State record was one of my many problems with Carmody. I loved how people would argue it had something to do with the brilliant coaching of Ed DeChellis.

And now we're here again with Penn State.

It's a good first-tier measuring stick.

I recall speaking with someone more knowledgeable than me that DeChellis knew that PSU could just ”beat-up” NU and put us into a shell in the Coach Carmody era. Not shocking given the dynamics of the coach. But, telling. Sad that we have not figured out how to have success against a very mediocre program.
