Does anyone actually know for sure if we plan to sign one more prospect in the spring or are we done for this class? Thanks.

We're still after both Brandon Ingram and Caleb Swanigan hard. Both are options.

Also, I'd be surprised if Duke didn't explore the transfer option....meaning a senior transfer who can step in and play right away.

Only way Duke should stand pat with roster would be if Winslow and Jones return.
Little chance of that happening but one can wish.
2015 Prediction
PG. T Jones 32 minutes
SG. M. Jones 24 minutes, Allen 16 minutes , Kennard 18 minutes (between the three of them they can play point for 8-10 minues a game and Kennard play SF 8-10 minutes)
SF Winslow 32 minutes. Robinson 2 minutes
PF Jefferson 26 minutes Jeter 10 minutes
Center. Plumlee 26 minutes. Obi. 14 minutes

Predicted scoring averages
Winslow 16 Pts
T Jones 12
M Jones 12
Kennard 10
Allen 6
Jefferson 8
Plumlee 6
Obi 5
Jeter 4
Robinson < 1

If Jeter only gets 4 points per game next year Duke is in trouble. OFC

How about 10 for Jeter and if Winslow leaves 10 for Ingram ? I like our chance with him if Winslow declares.
That would be a tough team to defend outside with T Jones and four great wing scoring options of M Jones, Allen, Kennard and Ingram.

What is the word on Winslow? Anyone with any info on his situation as far as staying or leaving? I mean i've watched every game and IMO no way is he NBA ready....another year in college and he would be NBA ready IMO....Now Okafor is NBA ready no doubt.....Tyus no way he is either but you never know what these kids are thinking and who they are listening to more importantly than anything

Just checked 4 Mock NBA Draft sites and three had JO, T Jones and JW going in first round. One of the four did not have T Jones in first round.
Meeks, Johnson and Paige were second rounds picks.
In one I saw T Jones going to the Bulls with 25th pick. I think that would be a great fit if he declares.
Would love for Winslow to return for 1 more year but he is being compared to the next James Harden and except for consistency of outside shot I think they are spot on.

If it were me I think i'd rather come back and PLAY in college than to be stuck on the end of an NBA bench for 4-5 years....yeah you get paid but the money will always be there....no JO is a no brainer he will start from day 1....Tyus will be stuck on a bench IMO and Winslow compared to Harden??????? Really???? The guy has played 20 some games in college...no way would i compare him to Harden just yet...are they comparing him because he is so athletic like Harden? if so there are alot of college players like that

And also Mock Drafts are a total joke....that's why i never pay any mind to any of them

First off, Duke won't stand still no matter if all three of the frosh came back. If two came back we won't stand still, and we won't stand still, when inevitably all 3 leave.

We'll be in it for both Ingram and Caleb till the end. The longer for Caleb the better i think. Ingram who knows, he's milking it for everything its worth.

BTW if tyus came back, you can bet your entire paycheck he'd average nearly 35-40mpg once conference play rolled around.

I think it's because they are both left-handed. That's about it.

I hope that's part of it because Harden is an offensive machine and was in college too...Winslow has the potential but is a long long way from being the next Harden

My predictions as it stands right now, and these are unofficial and really mean nothing.

Jahlil - 100% gone, maybe higher if possible
Justise - 80% gone
Tyus - 50/50

Obviously it makes little to no sense for Jahlil to come back unless he truly enjoys college ball and being a kid that much. Justise is likely going to be a lottery pick, and my 80% prediction might be a little low. There's a myth players can't get better in the NBA....and that's all it is, a myth. Tyus is kind of the wildcard. Of the three he's the one that could use another year the most, IMO....but he's playing well right now and moving up draft boards. Plus, it's a weak PG draft.

A lot of this will also depend on Duke's postseason success, IMO. Let's say we'd make the Final Four. If that happens, then I think all three are likely gone.

As I've been saying all season....soak in these three youngsters and enjoy them while they're here....and hope that it leads to something special in the coming months.

Exactly, DJ. I've been saying that for a while now. If Duke has the type of success we hope we have, they're more than likely all gone. And at that point, we'd take it. Enjoy them.

Harden averaged 17.8 Pts a games a freshman but played 34 minutes per game.
Winslow plays 28 minutes a game and averages 11 points a game.
I am not ready to say he is the next Harden but comparing the two as freshman college players is not too far off. Pac 10 defense in 2007 does not compare to ACC this year.
Winslow' s ability to drive to the basket reminds me of Harden but Justin Anderson's outside shooting instead of Winslow's Is more similar to Harden.
Either way I am happy to have him and hope he stays another year. If he does he will be first team All Acc in 2016.

ACC- comparing numbers isn't fair either, b/c Harden had no one else on that team; Justise plays with the frontrunner for POY and #1 pick, and a Senior 2 guard that's having a great season. Add in the other top PG and there aren't as many shots to go around.

Justise is light years ahead of Harden in physicality and defense, hustle etc. I think Anderson isn't a good comparison at all- Anderson is a phsyical specimen, that's about it. his shooting this year is no where consistent of what he's done his whole career, props to him on working on that, but it's not anywhere near harden level, b/c i dont think it's sustainable.

I dont think Harden is a good comp for Winslow. Harden was a scorer coming out of HS who didn't put much energy into defense and constantly talked smack. Winslow is bigger and taller and will play the 3 in the NBA. I think Winslow is a rich man's Andre Iguodala (if he fulfills his potential).

I don't think it's unfair to speculate that a guy like Justise wouldn't score more if he was on a different team. The advantage to playing at Duke is that he doesn't have to score 12 a night for us to win. It helps when he does, but there are other proven scorers on the roster.

Let's say Justise played at ASU this year....is it reasonable to think he could score 14 or 15 points per game? I don't think it's that far off.

Physically, Justise is as ready as most players to go into the NBA. But his offensive game is still very much a work in progress. Anyone who has watched him closely can see the potential is there though. Is he a guy who can score 20 per game someday? That might be a stretch, but I think middling teens isn't out of the question. His shot needs more consistency than it does mechanics, and as a young player he's not where he needs to be in 1) recognizing when to attack, and 2) the most efficient times to do it at.

Don't remember Harden as a freshman. In checking team record they went 7-11 in last 18 games finishing up playing 3 games in NIT after losing in first round of Pac 10 tournament. Top three players were only ones to score more than 7 Pts a game coming in at 9, 12 and 17. The team was just an average team in a down year for Pac 10.
I do however remember Harden as a sophomore . Not sure many experts thought he would be as good as he is today. OKC should have never let him get away. Not sure if chemistry was right with Westbrook and Durant but those three together are good for 70-75 points per game. Get 5 from Perkins, 12 from Serge and 15-20 from the bench and OKC would rule the Western Conference for years.

They knew but they couldnt afford all three. They felt it best to keep Westbrook and Durant. nice problem to have.

I agree with DukieJay's predictions. Ok and Justice are gone, Tyus is 50/50.

I don't like the Harden or Iggy comparison. I think it's somewhere in the middle. He's not going to score like Harden but I think he'll score more then Iggy. Further, I'd put his defense somewhere in the middle but close to Iggy's. Nobody plays less D then James Harden. Hell I watched our boy JJ blow him up for 20 the other night. Lastly, he's not an NBA 3. He's 6'6 (the ideal size for an NBA 2) and has the skills to guard an NBA 2. He needs to improve his jump shot which will develop in time. If he has the work ethic, I think he has the potential to be a great NBA player. Just my opinion.

Iguodala is actually a pretty good comparison I hadn't thought of before. I'd say I see more Iggy than I do Harden. I don't know if Justise has that kind of scoring potential like Harden, but 14 to 19ppg later in his career isn't that much of a stretch. Plus, you have to remember it does matter what team you're on. Just because you score 15 per game doesn't mean you're a great player. Kevin Martin has put up some huge scoring numbers over his career but never really with a contender.

Winslow is generally rated (this was discussed in another thread) in the top 15 in the draft. I'd say it's a certainty he'll be gone. Okafor has been gone since he signed his LOI.

A few weeks ago I'd have said Tyus was a 60-70% stay for year two. But his game has picked up and now it's probably 50-50.

Just no way I would compare Winslow to Harden (who is a great scorer and a true 2G). Winslow does not have a great shot; but he can drive and get up, so that will help his game. He's athletic and physical and that will only increase. If he can develop a consistent shot he'll be very good. If not he'll be a role player and defender.

I read earlier that Maques Bolden eliminated Kansas and cut his list to four and it also mentioned that he could possibly announce his college choice in the next few weeks

Yea I saw that too. His final four are TCU, Oklahoma, Duke, and Kentucky so I'm pretty sure it's coming down to Duke and Kentucky.

Not sure about that reasoning.
Just basing off crystal ball predictions. Everyone's prediction is Duke or Kentucky. That's all. I'm not saying he couldn't go to TCU or Oklahoma, but basing off everyone's predictions, it was Kansas, Kentucky, or Duke, and he has already eliminated Kansas.

Most of these kids usually seem to throw one home state college into their list and it usually makes it into the final cut just because it's the home state college lol

I wonder if these schools ever think they actually have a shot

Does Matt Jones have any influence here?
I was wondering the same thing considering they went to the same high school and Matt will be a senior next year when Marques is a freshman, so Matt was a senior when Marques was a freshman in high school, so if Marques was on the varsity team as a freshman then they would've played on the team together for one year

I wouldn't laugh at it. For starters, I actually think it's a nice, respectful gesture. Then, for guys who may be looking to jump to the NBA quickly, being close to home and having a better chance of being a focal point are relevant factors.

It doesn't often work out that way, though, I know. Jon Brockman is a notable exception, but an exception all the same.

Ugh Jon Brockman....a blast from the past. For the longest time I thought he was a done deal to Duke. He would have been a very nice piece from 2006-09 when we really, really needed it.
