Until TnT go, Iowa will not be anywhere near a national title. I understand their morals and standards. Those will not bring in the Bo Bassetts and Jax Forrests of the world.

Hence, we will be wrestling for 3rd or 4th as a team every season.

Need a fresh, young face at the helm.

Just my opinion: If Hawks take the high ground without cheating, I'm alright with 3rd or 4th place. I cant wait to see some of these young studs wrestle like Ferrari, Delucca, Ludington against the best. Maybe the Hawks need some fresh coaching personalities, but whoever it is, is going to be locked into the standards of recruiting that the University of Iowa sets just as other coaches/schools are.

Our athletic administration will also have to agree to look the other way on rule bending/breaking with this fresh new face to do the things Taylor is with recruiting the best every year. Having a billionaire or several multimillionaires in his corner is a must also to compete with PSU and now Okyst.
The new NIL clearinghouse is supposed to negate the effect of a few big boosters. No more pay for play. All but the most extremely talented wrestlers (e.g. Starocci or Lee) will be getting low five figure deals in exchange for promoting products like a car dealership, or something similar.

Or are you saying that PSU and OkSt are going to cheat on the clearinghouse? Their deeper pockets shouldn’t matter.

I am confused all of the cheating talk and nothing of the Iowa heydays with the graduation rate.
I know the standards a very high now... this is not the Iowa fan base we are all used to. Accepting 3rd or 4th place come on. Iowa will always be an elite program. Accepting anything but 1st is out of the question.

Those days are long gone my friend. Until something seismic happens with the Hawks, this is our lot for the foreseeable future.

You might be spot on , but we won the title 4 years ago, and probably had the best team the year before that.
Why does it seem like 40 years ago?

We did have the best team...Cael saw that and went into overdrive.

Then DT entered the picture.

Right...we're not going to become Nebraska Football, but we're not going to contend for conference or national championships as a team. Top 3 finish at each is the new ceiling.

However, we will continue to dominate the Soldier Salute...while taking at least one egg in the face every year.

I’ve said here and on the other site many times that the tactical money play is to fill holes with NIL money via transfers. But the long term strategic play is to use the same money to build a world class RTC. If the pay-for-play angle is shut down, then the same money should go there.

I'm just a retired guy on a fixed income, unfortunately.

Landing the Bassetts was supposed to be a big part of that seismic change. Think bringing Iowa back on top with his influence on future recruits and the talents of his family was his goal. Until they decided to **** on us 4 months into that plan, and will now be working against us for one of our big rivals. That combined with losing the Raneys in the class that was supposed to bring us back into serious contention is why everyone is talking about being lucky to get 3rd or 4th from now on. Even if we land a few decent 27 and 28 recruits, is it too little too late??

Getting Both Kennys, both Bachmann's, Sidun and Amato is pretty much what we would need to get back into national title contention.

Is there much overlap in their weights or could we utilize all of them? We aren’t at the point were we have enough blue chippers in our lineup that we can have some riding pine, like PSU and Taylor will have soon. It’s going to hurt us this year having to sit Gabe or Kennedy.

Doesn't matter, we need them all. Figure it out when they get on campus.

That scenario would be luxurious. There are FAR worse problems to have, imo.

I don’t want to get past ourselves because we haven’t heard anyone in the known/insider information tell that we are leading in the recruiting battle with these prospects; but I believe we can make it work if we miraculously get them all.

Landon Sidun (125/133)
Paul Kenny (133/141)
Joe Bachmann (149/157)
Sonny Amato (157/165)

Fred Bachmann and Sean Kenny are just coming out of their freshman year and will grow.

It would help greatly if we got all four in the 2027 class. Without any insider information, I feel like the least likely one we will land is Landon… I feel like PSU is all over him.

I like our odds with the others, little nervous with the Bachmann’s and OhioSt and Mizzou… but we will see. Hopefully we are walking with our best foot forward with this class. Especially after the disappointment from the previous class.

Sorry I mean Fred Bachmann.

They, Sean Kenny and Fred Bachmann, were Freshman last year. Sorry, should’ve clarified. But I do believe they will grow.

I may be wrong but I can see Sean Kenny being a lightweight as well.

Don't forget to throw in Hutcherson!
I know we made the list for top 10 190 kid In Illinois in class of 27, so I assume we are recruiting him😄. I agree stock piling kids like this and letting the ones who don’t make the lineup leave is the way to go. I was just saying right now we can’t afford holes in the lineup and more than one blue chip at another weight or two.

Did he just finish his freshman year? What weight does he wrestle now? Is he projected to be 197 or heavyweight in college? By then PSU will really be in the hunt for both, and Merrill will be almost done also, so will have Taylor to deal with. Didn’t someone say he’s friends with Sidun. PSU get the guys they really want, so Sidun will be theirs if they prioritize him, which helps with Hutcherson also. We need a few of these big east coast and PA prospects to take a chance on us like Lee did, and Bassett clan almost did, otherwise we may fall behind Nebraska for a while, especially if they land Bassett bro’s. 🤮🤮

He wrestled 190 at Fargo, not sure what weight he projects at. He will be a sophomore this year

Wow. I find it funny how PSU looks at other programs. The run will end. Will you still be a fan when it does. Iowa fans are very passionate sometimes delusional but they always support their team. PSU fans became fans in 2010 and have had the privilege of have a great run. Imo wouldn’t you want competition to grow a nation wide fan base. No one will watch if they know who the winner is.

I’m a life long cubs fan, so I don’t abandon my teams because they lose. I’m also an Iowa alumni. UNI is my second favorite team.

same on all fronts except being a Iowa Alum. I'm a Mule alum. I'd bet we do not like the same NFL team though. I'm a Rams fan. I was born into all of my sports teams. IOWA, Cubs, Rams

When is the big recruiting trip in October? This will help us see all the targeted recruits we are after.

Hoping we are pursuing the Bachmann, Kenny, Sidun, and Amato with the best foot forward. Is there anyone else that we are looking at in the 2027 class?

Nebraska was a clear #2 last year. We haven’t made strides in recruiting to close the gap with the likes of psu, osu, or the rising nebbie program. Many of us foresaw this when taylor joined osu and current trends are in aligment w/those predictions. Sucks and will likely ruin my month of march for years to come. lol

The coaches visited a couple Iowa kids Crosson and Dhabolt I believe. Israel Borge had Iowa in his top list of schools if I remember correctly.

Nebby wrestled out of their minds at Nattys last year so good for them. I do not see them repeating on that level. Plus I see their new "heavyweight" dividing their team rather than uniting.

I guess the fan base didn't grow and people stopped watching when Gable was winning 9 straight. Of course Penn State's run will eventually end. Maybe...
