I don't remember a school with the affluence enjoyed by the Calabasas players. I think it's really fortunate for the players and Nebraska these young men's parents can afford to fund several trips to Lincoln. We have all been led to believe it's all about getting a player to Lincoln to seal the deal and it's true.

While we all believe the revamped recruiting will produce better results I don't believe anything the Athletic Department has done in the recruiting area has a bearing on these commitments. It's really all on Riley and Langsdorf.

Some how some way we need the rule changed for when recruits can take official visits. Perhaps the new Chancellor will take a more proactive role and find a way to bring this up.

IMO a recruit ought to be able to make an official visit after he passes the SAT and starting in the second semester of his Junior year.

I think a lot of sensible people would agree with you but unfortunately pragmatic is not how one would describe the NCAA. They have been trying their best to slow down the recruiting process. In a recent stroke of genius they pushed back the date a kid could receive his written offer...had a huge effect of course (sarcasm)

We aren't recruiting the hood? I guess the thread title threw me off.
The point was that it's not the same difficulty of task to get a visit a kid who can hop a plane with Key and fly out several times a year vs. a kid whose family doesn't have the disposable income, vacation time, etc. to travel.

Recruits are allowed to pay their own way and come for an "unofficial" visit as much as they want. They only get one "official" visit where the school is allowed to help with costs.

So recruiting a kid from Omaha, he can visit every weekend for a quarter tank of gas. But if the kid is from GA and they don't have spare hundreds sitting around for plane tickets and hotels, they can't just come visit early and often.

Nobody is suggesting they should only target kids of certain economic status.

That doesn't seem very fair that the rich kids get to take all these un-official visits while the poor kids have to wait until they can take their official visits.

Yeah, it's my understanding that for the most part, having a lot of money allows you to do waaaaaaaaaaaay more stuff when you want to than being broke does.
