TFrank and Tom Hannifin addresses and interesting question in the chat last night, and that was the Penn State DL vs Michigan power run game. They commented that there are plenty of 3 tech DTs on the roster, and that is a strength. They said the PJ Mustipher 1 Tech DT was the issue. They said that this is likely a portal candidate, as we are not going to be able to recruit a FR from HS that can play this role. Then they said, we are not likely to see a 1 T DT at Penn State in the 320-340# range. seems to me this is exactly the type you need in the BIG, and you need more than 1 of them. Sometimes you may want both in the game along with strong DE's to man up against BIG run games. given that our 4-2-5 already makes the LB's small, it seems like big body DT/NT along with big Mike is part of the story. I was surprised they just said this was fait a compli that PSU would not recruit like that. Do you think we need these fire hydrant DTs or is this just a thing of the past.

I’ve been saying for a decade or so (since LJ Sr. left) that we need more of the one technique D tackles with a huge lower body, maybe 320 LBs minimum playing weight. It shouldn’t be let try to get the highest ranked D tackles, regardless of size, but we need to have a minimum standard for size at the 1 and 3 technique D tackles, regardless of their star rating.

when you watch UGA hammer UMich last year in the playoff game, Jordan Davis and a couple other guys just ate up the UMich OL. Davis could not be moved, which destroyed the UM run game.

Davis is a freak athlete. No comparison for him. Radio broadcast yesterday said Izzard is about 300 lbs. Maybe he beefs up this off-season and pushes 320?

Absolutely .. so sick of under sized DT’s. We get pushed around and run on by both of the big schools.

Still love the DT from Jersey who has signed with Texas. Something like 6’4”, 330. Nice get but I guess no interest by PSU.
