Read a recent article about Jim Harbaugh recruiting expenses for 12 days was $136,000. Also in his contract at Michigan allows the use of a private jet.

http://espn.go.com/college-football...rines-spent-nearly-136k-2015-recruiting-trips

The article didn't give the absolute total spent. I would assume it is much higher. Its very obvious that money runs the show in college football. When will it stop, if ever, IMO college football is losing its identity and soul. Rivals gone, geographical based conferences disappearing, Bowl Game TV ratings have taken a dive. The money gap between the have's and have not's grows every year.

DoubleXBoy........................you are preaching to the choir! Everybody has figured the real game that college sports is playing and it's...........with the fans. The ca$h grab that the game has become is so obvious. Now, I wonder what is going to happen to college sports when a college education is guaranteed to the nations youth for free. LSU is having a financial crisis that threatens all sports at that institution as I type. No wonder! They pay the coaches millions!

Someday, ( doubtful in my lifetime ) the $$$$ aspect will be divided differently and things will change again. Who knows, someday we may actually play in a conference with teams we have something in common with ( at least geographically ). In the meantime this isn't bad and could be a whole lot worse, ( unless you're planning on driving to a conference away game ).

"we should've stayed in the big east/AAC"...Mickey Furfari. Based on the AAC annual payout, we wld only afford to recruit one day. Lol

The irony that the democrat governor is shutting down LSU over money problems while supporting he democrat party's free college education for everyone platform.

No way we could or should have stayed in the defunct Big East (AAC). I may miss some the eastern teams we played but i realize it was a good move money-wise and to secure the future of WVU athletics.

West Virginia spent approximately $527,842 on recruiting. Im not sure how accurate that amount is, considering its from a USToday article about receuiting expenses.

I remember Bobby Bowden once saying a WVU recruiting coach would go to D.C., hit a couple of schools and then drive home same day. Penn State, Bowden said, would send a coach to D.C., he would check into hotel and stay 3 or 4 days recruiting, Bowden also joked that Woody Hayes' Ohio State phone bill was probably larger than WVU's recruiting budget.

how could they ever monitor it? They can't do their job as it is now.

Lot of truth in that statement. Just look at the NCAA's track record to date. From the Miami Fla. violations to the handling of the PSU situation. The NCAA compliance people, the investigators and the rules makers are ineffectual and have zero credibility. IMO

Dammit, Jim! We should at least be spending a million! When Coach Holgorsen shows up to see a kid, it should be on his home field in a helicopter.
