Being stationed here in the Hampton roads area of Virginia, High school football is huge here and there's probably a dozen or so players in ESPN top 250. My question is why with Kentucky being the closest SEC school in the area beside South Carolina, don't they try and pluck a few guys away from here? Tech is down as of late and Virginia has been a non factor for quite awhile. Kentucky has got a few from the DC area why not come south some

Seems like we got a pretty good TE from there once. Seems like a interesting idea for consideration

South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee are all quicker drives. Then you also have the Big 10 schools like Ohio St, Penn St, and Maryland that are closer and offer much better football traditions than we do. A ton of ACC schools within a short drive including Clemson and obviously Vtech. It is one of the most heavily recruited areas in the country and will take a lot more than walking in and saying 'hey we play in the SEC' to have any kind of success in the region.

False brother. I drive from Virginia beach to Louisville Kentucky several times a year. Navy lets me go home sometimes. That being said South Carolina is the closest at 6-7 hours drive that last February to catch the cats in Columbia. Lexington to here is 8 hours. And if that's hot he case how is it any different than Ohio. Still all the same competition in recruiting. The stoops and co have no problem going to the DC area. Coming here to Virginia beach shouldn't be much different.

Same thing can be said about recruiting Florida? It's a short drive. Border state rich and full of talented ball players. I can't see the purpose of recruiting the DC area and leaving here out.

We lost our Virgina recruiter in Andy Buh and replaced him and others with coaches who are established in Florida.

^ ah okay. Didn't realize he was this region. Just feel like the cats could come in here and on occasion grab a few good players. Obviously wouldn't be the primary region but could be worth a little interest.

Tidewater area would be a good area to get into but Va Tech has had a strangle hold there for decades. Who knows, may be able to change that now that Beamer's gone.

That true but the last couple years least the years I can speak of since I have been here you're starting to see more and players go else where. Several are committed to places like UNC, a school in which I think UK can compete. Just takes a foot in the door.

Before retirement, I used to travel to VA and particularly to the Tidewater area quite frequently. When stuck there over the weekend during football season I would try to catch a HS game. Vey good football. I think a lot of Beamer's success at VPI was being the first to realize VA had pretty darn good HS ball.

Peace

It's a nice idea but does UK spread itself a little thinner or do they focus on areas where our coaches have a strong foothold already (Ohio and Florida)?

Hard to compete against a school that doesn't make you go to class or earn your grades.

UK Tight end Bobby Blizzard came from the Hampton Roads area. He eventually transferred to UNC.

UNC is not far from Richmond (2 1/2 hours) or Virginia Beach. The fans in the state mostly follow Virginia Tech or UVA in football. The ones that don't tend to follow UNC. The Virginia Tech football fans tend to follow UNC (primarily) or Duke in basketball season.

Lots of athletic talent in Virginia and particulary in Hampton Roads. Lawrence Tayor, Bruce Smith, Michael Vick, Al Toon, Percy Harvin, Plaxico Burreee, Alonzo Mourning, Allen Iverson, and J.R. Reid all came from that area.

I know Georgia and Tennessee give attention to Virginia in recruiting. Would love to see UK eventually develop a prescence here.

I say we concentrate on our strong points - start winning - then spread our wings....because our talent is there - but WE MUST WIN to steal from VATECH and now VA on a consistent basis.
