(Cue the echo) Hel-lo-lo-lo. Is anybody in there-there-there-there?
It's not a Pink Floyd song. It's NU's recruiting. This is killing me!! Has anybody seen anything? I just did a relatively thorough search and I don't see spit ... nada ... nothing.
A few cheap thoughts. Nothing of any consequence.
1) Geez, I hope the obvious isn't happening. I hoping f-ing Bamisile's decision isn't having that kind of effect.
2) I think it's just as likely that there was another Bamisile effect. The staff is really shutting down communication about recruiting. We saw signs of it last year - and now this. It's too easy to poach from NU, and the staff may shut down communication.
3) If the obvious is happening, it's not a good sign for Collins. But the turnover in staff can not be helpful.
4) Is there any chance they have a couple commitments, and the group is being run through the NU admissions gauntlet? That's probably not a great sign either.
5) I think the most realistic hope is that they are in good shape with a recruit or two, and football-game official visits will seal the deal.
6) I always wonder if this September dead period on campus is part of the traditional problem. While nobody is on campus and the engine is just starting to rev up at NU, official visits are taken all over the country to lively campuses with great atmospheres. Then, here comes NU in the middle of September after three or four weeks of official visits like the little brother trying to catch up from behind. "Wait for me, guys!!"
7) The other thing that kills me is that I see quite a bit about Stanford. NU-target Max Murrell committed there in the last couple days. Ryan Kalkbrenner has visited. And they've had a pretty active visit calendar. Damn.
8) My recruiting dream? Adam Miller and Kalkbrenner are teammates. Miller has two official visits still remaining. Maaaaaaaybe they are ... IT COULD HAPPEN ... OK, OK, I know. I'll stop. I'm sure the Irvins have already received several FedEx packages from Champaign.
I could use a little hope. My sports September has started off horribly between the Stanford game, the Bears and the dying Cubs.
