If it's Conner Harer who is a 2x PA state champ already as a Junior (at 145 last season and 152 this season), then it's a massive upgrade. He is ranked in the top 5 at the weight nationally (Henrich isn't ranked) and will more than likely be a 3x PA state champ when its all said and done.

I see Connor Harer beat Nick Campagna 8-3 at NHSCA. Campagna is a kid I’d like to see come here.
Just curious why? If RU wants to move up from the bottom few teams of the Big, we need to recruit top level recruits. Look SP kids are tuff kids, but he did not place in NJ as a junior. We need to aim much higher

Agreed. It’s not an exact science but chances are if you’re not an state champ, you’re not going to hang as a big 10 starter and if you’re not a 2X+ state champ, you’re not going to be a top level guy either.

Now obviously there are exceptions. The Van Brills didn’t win states but were able to hang. Poz was a 1x champ and has done pretty well so far. But then you also have guys lik Lewis Fernandes who won 2 titles including the most dominant single season I’ve ever seen and hasn’t done much at the NCAA level.

Ultimately we need to keep landing the guys like Soldano, Olivieri, and what would have been Peterson if he didn’t miss his senior year. Anthony Knox, Harvey Ludington, etc. who are dominating just about everyone they face for 4 years of high school. We also need to continue to improve our out of state recruiting. There’s too many schools and not enough elite NJ wrestlers to go around.

Agree we need to go after and get the top guys. Poz-won 1 but his junior year he lost to Foca in finals. And out of state recruiting is a must. Until we start landing Blair, Delbarton and the other top private school recruits we must get out of state kids.

Wrestling is on a downward spiral. Doesn’t mean it can’t turn around. Without transfers, it will take time. Per posters in the know, expect to get Harer who is top level. However, very few freshman make an impact in their true freshman year. So expect Harer to be a big help 3 years out.

Henrich came on strong toward the end of the year. He is/was by far our best commit and is on an upward trajectory. Hope he recommits. If it is a money issue, we just pick up money with Boone leaving.

We need to be successful in the portal or it’s three years until we are a real factor at the national tournament.

Of course you go hard after the elite guys. That’s obvious. I like the Campagna kid not to start right away but he’s better than his junior showing would indicate, IMO. That’s why.

To me, it’s not about the number of state titles or where your from that matter but who you have beat.. if someone is a 3x state champ but didn’t beat anyone nationally ranked and is therefore not ranked then yeah they won’t be as battle tested and we wouldn’t know how they would fare against elite competition.

One of the Delbarton kids is down to RU, VT and Cornell. He is visiting VT this weekend.

I wouldn’t call Southern Goodales old stomping grounds. They’re both Shore teams but Southern beats to their own drum and I don’t know how them or Pinelands is even considered part of the Shore.
As someone who went to Southern when Goodale was the HC at Jackson Memorial, they are NOT his old stomping grounds. Jackson Memorial and Southern Regional are bitter rivals, Goody was hated at Southern in his time at Jackson lol

One thing with the article, an offer from Notre Dame for wrestling?
Who knows maybe a typo.. the thing I was paying attention to was why blue chippers commit.. a lot on this board were asking y would elites go x… vs y…

Besides $$, I think the most important factor into an elite recruit decision to go x is their relationship w/ the coach n staff and how they feel… it’s why D. Taylor followed Cael.. why Spencer went wit Brands etc. also loved how Harer just gets it.. to succeed d1 u need to eat, sleep, breathe wrestling..

Norte Dame Ohio, it is one of the top D-2 schools. Still strange it was mentioned with all his D-1 offers.
They prolly offered him something.. I remember Ryan Anderson was a top 10 big board recruit and he ended up going to a non d1 school.. it happens

He’s going to be the guy to break PSU’s “curse” at 125.. Penn State currently has commits from Nos. 1, 2, 4, 8, 12 and 19 on the 2024 Big Board… Jeez..
I sometimes wonder if PSU is good for college wrestling. They've definitely earned their way, but now it's so easy for them to be at the top with that machine that Cael and company have built.

I was just a kid during Iowa's dominant years, but I get the feeling that they had to fight each year to get their championship. PSU seems to run run away with titles with a down year every 5/6th season.

Ohio State has been getting hammers too so that might be interesting down the road.

Dynasties could be a good thing for a sport.. or so they say at least.. I feel parity is better but yeah PSU is clear 1 every year with occasional sprinkle of Iowa/Ohio st/okst.. but yeah PSU is clearly alone on top.. Iowa got their best class ever coming in soon too so might be interesting..

The team race has become an afterthought. Writers rarely mention it now except to say everything will have to go wrong for psu not to win it. Most fans of the sport have written that aspect out of the conversation.

Most recent Flo Rankings are out. We don't have any recruits in the top 20 in any weight class who will be entering school in September.

We have two recruits that are ranked in the top 100 in the junior class. They are Harer ranked 22 at 152lbs and Nini ranked 55 at 138lbs. Harer is a two time Penna state chanp and really good. Nini finished 3rd in NJ and has potential. Hope we can get a few more from the junior class.

Iowa won the team title was it 2 years ago? They easily would have won it Covid year too. 2 in a row in my book.
Obviously need a down year from psu for them not to win it.
