If RU can’t land Kenny then the staff needs to re-evaluate their recruiting approach or it’s time for a change. B10 wrestling in Kenny’s backyard + longstanding relationships. A whiff on Kenny would be bad, really bad.
Backyard and longstanding relationships only go so far. Prestigious programs, coaching/training partners, and bags of cash also are in contention. A whiff might be bad, but given all the variables, not landing him wouldnt surprise me.

Would be great if they just announced the commit.
Aren’t coaches not allowed to mention a recruits name until they are signed? I know that used to be a rule, but not sure if that’s still the case.

Generally coaches let the kid announce it when they’re ready
Yeah that’s fine so then coaches should cut out the suspense BS and let us all be surprised. The eye-balls, hammers, fire, etc. looks like amateur hour I’m guessing Taylor and Cael don’t do that when they have a stud getting ready to announce?

Personally, I don’t mind the extra hype, excitement, fan engagement if theres no harm in it. That being said, any idea who the tweets referring to? 👀👀

To be fair, other than coaching the best program in the sport, everything Cael does is extremely terrible for the sport. Wrestling as few matches as possible, opting out of national duals, keeping all info top secret, etc.

I have no problem with these types of tweets. They’re harmless, they generate engagement, and they get fans talking. I don’t see the issue.

DeGeorge from Delbarton?
He would be a strong get, already a 2x NJ state finalist and currently ranked 13th at 144.

Wonder if we got any chance on Sontz, he’s also from Delbarton

Hodgins from Howell would also be a very strong get. He’s going be the top guy in the country next year.

Prediction = Zach Ryder Part II…great wrestler and nice kid but he going to be buried in the PSU line up.
A lot of good PSU wrestlers will be facing a log jam soon. Ryder most likely woulda started this year if he stayed PSU, think it was a mistake for PSU to get Rocco.

They are relative in skills and wouldn’t shock me at all if Ryder outplaces Rocco this year.

We weren't on Sontz's top 8. I saw he visited UNC, Princeton, UPenn, Cornell. Delbarton kids/parents/coaches don't really consider us so probably not.

Are we recruiting Mikey Batista (Blair), who is a similar weight? He at least has a family connection to Rutgers and is on campus a bunch tailgating for football games. Blair is similar to Delbarton, so I'm guessing no real chance, and I saw he visited Columbia, Princeton, and Northwestern, but I don't think he was on the big Rutgers recruiting weekend for the blackout game, even though he was tailgating, so I'm guessing not. I'd go after him over Coluccio and Soto unless they already indicated no interest.

Hmm yeah that’s why I was surprised to see Degeorge’s name…

Was hoping for at least a little Blair pipeline by now after Buxton and Robinson.. and even Mason transferred here long ago but yeah…

Collucio is good but PK’s brother ,SK, is just as good and a year younger..

Assuming Collucio can stay out of trouble he’s gritty and would be solid pick-up…and may actually consider RU.

the Delbarton and Blair kids simply have too many choices, including Ivies lining up at their doors. RU will always be squeezed between PSU and Ivies for top talent.

Funny how they also throw Lehigh in there as some elite academic power over Rutgers, like it's Princeton.

Lehigh and Rutgers academically are equals. Difference is paying significantly more for Lehigh which is private.
Lehigh prioritizes wrestling and doesn’t have football or basketball eating at the athletic budget or stealing attention from the program. You walk into Grace Hall and get that tough PA wrestling vibe.

Wonder if we got any shot at Howell’s Hodgins…. After PK, he seems to be the next strongest recruit in NJ

I like what we’re doing, better off spending money on the portal for someone who’s more proven. These HS kids may not even pan out.

That's what Rick Pitino is doing at St. John's basketball. No longer recruiting high school kids. All portal transfers.

I agree, many people think this kid is good or that is but forget how tough d1 is and that everyone is good in d1.

I seen many considered “good” recruits never even end up being ncaa qualifiers or sometimes even cracking d1 b10 lineup.

The top p4p class recruits are the best chance for becoming AA but even then it might be like 50% chance at best to AA

Portal is probably the best in terms of ROI. Most of our AA lately have come from the portal.

Easier in college basketball where veteran players will carry you in the tournament. In wrestling it seems like the champions are getting younger each year and the elite of the elites are never going to transfer. You’ll end up with some dual wins, maybe a podium or two but not going to find a future champion in the portal unless there’s some extenuating circumstances (Ferrari, Alirez, Gross, etc)

Figeroa, Elam, McNeil, Rocco, Bailey, Ghadiali, Ryder, and plenty more transfers are all future potential champ(figeroa already was).

I mean just last year alone, okie state, took two transfers (Hamiti and Hendrickson) to champions. So yes u can find future champs in the portal and it doesn’t have to be extenuating circumstance. Gotta find the guys with talent and willing to work for it.

Transfer portal is no brainer at this point just poach the mid-levels.

Transferring to Oklahoma State to train with David Taylor is at an entirely different level than transferring to Rutgers.

Rutgers typically elevated their transfers. And I’m not talking bout just transfers to RU it’s just transfers overall, if any has potential to be a future champ. Id argue yes, if u can get the right guys. Nick Suriano transferred here and became a champ so it can be done 🤷‍♂️?
