He's Class of 2027 #36 on Flo big board and #49 on matscouts. He's a good 125 prospect

We really are loading up on the light weights #3 at 113 Farnsworth, #17 at 113 Esposito, and now Chunko.. hopefully they all can fill in to be good sized 125/ maybe 33? And still got Ayden Smith
Smart because most kids have a hard time being a career 125 so if one can they are set at 125. The others battle for 133. Frustrates me when people bash Goody he's always got a plan. Hes a top 15 head coach in the country for sure and people constantly complain. News flash D1 wrestling is HARD
Chunko is a wrestling family pretty sure Carter will be third (or fourth) generation D1 wrestler. I believe Dad was Bucknell/Drexel
and Grandfather was Clarion.
How can you possibly say this unless you’re going by longevity? He's had 16 season (17 overall NCAA canceled 1yr.) and only finished 15th or above 4 times and one of those was the Covid year where the entire Ivy and a bunch of kids sat out and he finished 13th. They only cracked the top 20 barely 3 other times.
Sure the 1st, 3 were rough with little funding (2011 fully funded) but after that he's had full funding, a top 5 attendance, fertile recruiting grounds and then later a brand new training facility. Now we're barely a Top 20 program.

I can say it because I believe it to be true. And I talk with other people who have great wrestling minds and we have made lists and he's in everyone's top 15. Way more involved then just the NCAA tournament.
I think some of your dates/info are off. We only fully funded the 9.9 scholarships at out-of-state tuition levels around 2016 or 2017. The 2011-ish was at in-state tuition levels. Prior to Goodale's arrival in 2007, we almost cut the sport and were offering 2.2 to 4.4 of the 9.9 scholarships available at in-state tuition levels.
One issue is we arent getting the volume of blue chippers other programs get. Plus some of our top recruits have not been the most sought after by the teams above us for whatever reasons. That leaves little margin for error before recruiting classes even walk in the door.
We been in the running for some elite recruits recently.. Shultz, Mullen, Knox, Ferrarri, PK, we keep getting close… least we been in the running but yeah..
The PA recruiting strategy will pay off big-time. There is so much PA talent looking for B10 spots and RU checks all the boxes. Plenty of those PA kids are blue-collar and not interested in Ivies. Only so many roster spots at traditional powerhouses. RU is driving distance to Eastern/Western PA. Goodale could fill a top 10 line-up with second-tier PA recruits the talent pool is so deep there.

Nothing wrong with blue-collar. Hard working families that are obsessed with wrestling. The parents/families at PA powerhouses like FCA and Bishop very different than Delbarton or SJM. Take a ride through Johnstown or Quakertown and it’s obvious. The Malvern pipeline is a bit surprising to me but could be huge too. Oizerowitz doesnt even go to his home school where his dad is a legendary football coach, no way he will be slumming it at Rutgers unless we are his best rated option.

I hear you. IMO when it comes to sports like wrestling where it’s hard to make $$$ long term unless your name is Taylor or Burroughs a degree from a top 50 school with strong alumni network and future job prospects should be critical in recruiting process. I wish the Jersey kids well in Iowa City only time will tell. I understand losing NJ studs to Cornell and Ivies, or even Duke/UVA, but then again I always prioritize education and use the sport as a tool to get into schools that otherwise these kids would have zero shot at admission. Iowa has an acceptance rate of 85% = anyone with a pulse can get in.

How is he #2 in the nation when hes never won a major tournament, he’s never even won a state title , heck hes never even made a NJ state final and he wasn’t even losing to the eventual champ either he couldnt get past Lavalle who also hasn’t won a major tournament his entire hs career
Idk if I’m ready to gift him 2 titles just yet ,especially with all the talent the private schools put every year .
im not hating on Hodgins he very well could lap the competition the next 2 years but a #2 national ranking for a guy who hasnt won a regional title or made a state final yet seems like a reach for me
I agree although no doubt he’s a stud. One thing to keep in mind the heavier weights don’t have the depth of talent like the light and middle weights. Delby’s Betz is prob his biggest competition for a state title.
True NJ lower weights have always been more stacked but you never know nowadays who is on the bench with these super team private schools. St Joes just had Alvarez riding the pine for 2 years then makes a state final. Pat Glory brother will probably spend another year on the bench for Delbarton . Also you never know when another PA state champ may “randomly” move to Rumson or Southern.
plus winning a NJ state title is REALLY difficult. You could fill a book with all the guys that were pre season champions and top seeds that couldn’t get it done when the lights are the brightest
Magic Man is prob the best coach in D1 but otherwise I never understood the OKST appeal. Terrible academics. Desolate campus in the middle of nowhere. Hard to get direct flights. Interesting local population.
a few northeast guys have mentioned over the years its hard to adapt to the culture change. JO almost left , Alex Meade , Sammy Alvarez
It’s not about winning a major tourney, or state title.. yes they count but it’s more about the competition they beat.. that usually leads to the high ranking. Says he’s a U17 World Medalist…
I was surprised to see him #2 at his weight too but he probably had a big win somewhere to earn it.
