I don't know about all this JUCO stuff. Over-recruiting JUCOs is part of what has killed us on the DL. The JUCO comes in, needs a year to get up to speed (if he ever does), then boom, he's gone after one productive season. When you bring in multiple JUCOs, that can become a serious problem. I understand that sometimes you need some immediate help here and there. But I would rather stick to recruiting high school prospects as much as possible and try to build some depth and experience. We are never going to have a deep and experienced DL if we keep depending on JUCOs to fill those spots.
Just having two of the guys listed above would have been huge for us to have this season.Melvin Lewis and Cory Johnson were great for us their senior years, but I would agree that it took them awhile to catch on. Of course, there are exceptions like Big Z, but he was going to the NFL no matter what. I really wish Stoops could have kept Strowbridge, Fullwood, Provitt (academically ineligible), DaVon Hamilton, and Kobie Smith onboard. Along with the departures of Hatcher, Tubman, and Meant, I feel like this program can't catch a break on either side on the lines.
At this point, there's probably no need for him to rush his decision.Per JR, Smith not coming, hopes to come at later date?
