Is it …

(1) great and saves our landfills from tons of trash:
(2) bunk, most of that crap ends up in the landfill;
(3) worth the effort, but not what it is promoted to be;
(4) not worth the effort, because all of the good is balanced or outweighed by the process which is not good for the environment; or,
(5) something other than the other offered options?

Our garbage service charges an extra fee if we recycle. Eff that, especially since a lot of it ends up in a landfill. #2 & #5

Making the very optimistic assumption that it's all actually getting recycled, it's still just a blip on human carbon footprint. Industries create like 80% of the pollution/waste.

Obviously, it's not a bad thing, but I don't know that if every individual on the planet started sorting their trash it'd make much of a difference. Maybe somebody will school me on this, but that's my partially informed take.

All I know is I work on cars for a living and the amount of recyclable s*** I toss in the trash on a daily basis would make Al Gore keel over dead.

When my Dad and I were cleaning out my Grandmother's house after she passed we literally filled a dumpster. I went to toss a can of wd-40 in there and he was like "WOAH you can't throw that out, it'll end up in a landfill!" I gave him one of those "lol if you only knew" looks.

I will take it serious when the government bans plastic and all the spam mail we receive in the mail everyday. Just imagine all the trees we are killing.

The amount of regulations they place on businesses just because they can and generates billions of dollars is amazing. Then you start to step back and say if this is so important why don’t they regulate it for households?

It is all just needless regulations to generate billions from industries.

Plastic isn't really that "recyclable" is it? I think aluminum is like 99 percent so, and can be used for it's original purpose agasin.

Consumer driven reduction of single use plastic is probably about as good as you're going to get.(And that's not going to happen. People are for it until they realize it means more work for them)

<- - - rolled Recycle Bin to street couple hours ago for bi-monthly pickup.

I believe in and fully support the concept. Based on my understanding, paper and aluminum cans are winners. In fact, aluminum cans appreciated ~60% in value over the past 9 months.

My yearly haul to local scrap yard.

Glass recycling is nearly non-existent in USA. Not so in Europe. Plastic waste is a toxic nuisance. Read somewhere plastic particles and pieces may soon outnumber fish in the ocean if we're not there already. Scientists worked up a process for rapid bio-degradation of certain plastic grades, but unsure if any progress made on that front. We really should address this issue. Bottle deposits are a great idea, one which I remember as a kid. Also popular in Europe and several US states.

We must really get a handle on plastic waste, and soon.

-plant based plastics are possible and need to be pushed. Paper and metal eventually rot...plastic is the issue.

-ultimately, the US/Europe does an ok job...but like everything else unless we get China/Russia/India and the rest of the third world on the beam...were pissing in the wind.

Recycle cardboard, plastic and electronics. Can't control where it goes from there, but I do it anyway.
Same here. In addition, I don't litter, and I pick up after my dog when he takes a ****. We stopped at a rest stop in South Carolina last week, and I got Sam out to take care of his business. In spite of having signs telling you to pick up after your dog, trash cans and poop bags available, there were piles of dog **** everywhere. What compels people not to take 30 seconds to open the bag, pick up the poop, tie a simple knot in it and toss it in the trash? As for littering, I'd like to see it punishable by death. If you're littering, you are a worthless human being and have no value to society. Same for people who can't put their shopping cart up.

My city has a setup where the giant recycle bin is free, but trash is charged based on volume. I throw cans, plastic, paper, and glass into the recycle bin every week to avoid paying more for garbage. I'm not concerned with it after that point. I assume most of it probably gets sent to China and then out to sea.

I recycle but it's a pretty fruitless effort. Besides, in about 5 billion years, our sun will turn into a red giant and consume the earth completely if it's still here. Pretty much everything will be incinerated. So go ahead and stop recycling.

Made a trip to the recycle bin (plastic bottles & cardboard) and Kroger's (plastic bags) yesterday. If that **** ends up in the ocean, blame the recycling company, Kroger or global warming.
