Not that I care but a city in Kansas is the gay capital of the world?
Either way, hard to defend. If said on social media and the guy isn't in a public job maybe just let it go. An announcer is a public job.

edit: whoever leaked it is a tattletale.

I hate listening to him but this should be an apology and move on. Good grief.

Thom Brennaman said he made a comment that he's deeply ashamed of in an on-air FSO apology. "I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith. I don't know if I'm going to be putting on this headset again." #Reds

Don't forget about the part where in the middle of his apology he called a Reds home run. That was funny af.

So, my understanding is he was telling a story about being in San Francisco back in the late 80s or early 90s. They went to break. When coming back from his mic was hot and he said, That's one of the f** capitals of the World.

If everybody who ever made mistakes were unhirable, there would literally be no workforce. I think you know this as well as anybody.

Again, he sucks and should have been fired for being a bore but the cancel culture **** has to stop.
This isn't a "mistake". Her didn't say the score was 3-0 when it was 4-0. This is an a-hole using a slur on the radio. It's like the #1 responsibly of a radio announcer. More important than saying the count or telling the batting average of Joey Votto. Don't be a hateful scumbag to 5% of the country.

Anyone else use the word *** every other sentence as a teenager in the 90s? Shewee glad their wasn’t Facebook or twitter or whatever the hell back then.
Yeah, no Facebook is why we all used that word. People said that all the time, and would not have mattered if NBC camera was in our face live at the time. We were all little shyts. We were all wrong. What I'm glad of is that I grew up with the times. After 30 years, I understand not to say hateful crap about a group of people who could be discriminated quite easily and often faced violence.

He’s white. I guess considered privileged. Can’t make a mistake or an error. Apologies aren’t acceptable. Will have to lose his career over it to satisfy the holier than thou crowd. Those that never made or make a mistake. Social justice at its best.

There should be forgiveness. He should be able to work in the future. But that doesn't mean there should't be consequences in the short-term. Whether that means fired or suspended the rest of the year. You can't use that type of slur around a microphone. And it's not an accident. You don't accidently say those things ("its not who I am"); you mean it deep down.

Yeah you nailed the easy part. Don’t screw
up. Got it.

It’s what comes after screwing up.

We’re lucky, I guess, to be in the esteemed presence of people that have never said hurtful
things.

Such weak sauce for year 2020–a man loses his job for uttering the word ***—meh. own it thommy, grow a pair, don’t grovel. it’s only your livelihood.
No kidding . . . on the Paddock you can say *** or ****** and only get banned for a week or so.

I thought the worst part of the whole thing was the on air apology. He mostly apologized to his co-workers, bosses, and "people who sign his paychecks." Oof, how tone deaf can you be? He stepped in it, and then the apology showed he was more worried about his job than anything else. That's not an apology from the heart.

It's shark week mfers.

His love affair with the Cubs is actually what drives me bonkers.

Well then I suppose Biden should be forced to step down from his nomination. What he said was no mistake either...there you have it folks, we are all flawed.

When are people gonna learn. If you have a headset on, a mic attached to you, and/or a camera anywhere near your vicinity, mind your P's & Q's. don't say or do anything you wouldn't want anyone to see or hear. You never know when that thing is recording or not.

The comment was really bad, but pretty tough to hate on an apology, when a dude f*cks up that bad, and the entire nation is watching while he's realizing he just flushed 36 year career down the toilet. Assuming he didn't have time to meet with PR and rehearse a careful scripted heartfelt apology. He was likely shitting his pants.
