need to add a transfer or juco badly...and one who can play right away whether as a starter or some sort of wildcat qb...
need to have the ability to throw somebody in to juice the O if DB does poorly or gets hurt...
I feel like we may add Gunner Kiel. Could be why he isn't playing for Cinci tonight. May have told the coaching staff that he's transferring.

He won't come here unless he is guaranteed to start.
That's what happens when you refuse to give anyone else playing time at quarterback for most of the year. He probably sees the writing on the wall and that we now will be Barker or bust.
4th QB in Stoops 3 years coupled with 2 OC's. Pitiful leader!!!

??? Playing time is earned in practice. Reese Phillips has had serious injury problems, and never earned playing time despite multiple opportunities. Phillips was recruited by other schools as a safety. He picked Kentucky because he wanted a chance to compete as a quarterback. He got that chance, but it didn't work out for him. I hate to see him go, but it is ridiculous to say he didn't get his opportunity at Kentucky.
Whitlock was a terrible QB and transferred because of Towles, who everyone wanted. Smith transferred due to injuries as he was never the same after that. Towles is transferring because he proved he couldn't get the job done and is going to play backup until Barker proved he couldn't, but he didn't want to do that. Phillips has been hurt a lot.4th QB in Stoops 3 years coupled with 2 OC's. Pitiful leader!!!
This guy only ever posts about how great Reese Phillips is and that he's the best, most accurate QB on the roster (despite being 3rd team). Not surprising that he'd post something like this. I'd imagine he's related to him in some way.Could you do better?
And none of them where his recruits. Brown left to take a head coaching position. Dawson was his mistake. Bet we would have one at LEAST one more game this year if brown had stayed. And I think the Dawson hire was a bad decision in hindsite, but many didn't think so before the season started. Including the SEC down south guys. He brought Dawson in hopes of keeping continuity in the progression of the offense that was run under Brown. It didn't work out. Dawson was the wrong choice. But can't see how you can blame stoops for Brown deciding to take the head coaching job at a school he cut his teeth at as a OC. Wasn't there some talk of Brown possibly waiting on taking the UK OC job before he was hired in hopes of getting a HC job? Didn't he decide only after it became apparent that he was not going to get a HC job that he agreed to the head OC job? And if you truly believe that had brown stayed for this year that the offense wouldn't have progressed as it did in year two under him than I guess we will just have to disagree. That IMHOP was the single biggest deciding factor to our season not progressing to a bowl bid this year. Stoops mistake was trying to find someone who IMOP he thought similar enough in coaching style to Brown, that the offense wouldn't have to change much and, and would take the expected step forward. I'm my opinion as the season wore on he felt less and less comfortable in his decision to hire Dawson. He then felt he needed to place more of his input into the offensive play calling and that hurt him in his leadership role of the other parts of his head coaching responsibilities. That's why I thnk we saw some of the coaching mistakes this year we didn't in the previous two. Stoops is not a offensive guy. I bet this time around he hires someone "Gran" who he can trust to run the offense, and someone who isn't young with head coaching aspirations. Sorry for the long message. Just tired of all the negative stoops talk. Wish Brown could have stayed just one more year. Really believe that would have made a world of difference. Can't blame him for taking a HC job. He's a young up and comer. All of this of course IMOP.4th QB in Stoops 3 years coupled with 2 OC's. Pitiful leader!!!

I don't think this reflects Stoops. I think this proves we had 2 bad QBs, one who was a big disappointment, and 2 who got injured and never really recovered.

We cantell you hate Stoops. But look at it objectively. Whitlow was terrible here. Yes, he went on to be his team's starter, but do you know what tram that was and how well they did? And Max has done well, but he nor Whitlow are hardly facing anything they faced in the SEC. And of course, Phillips was a stretch coming out of HS anyway, so any setback was not good.Phillips had one injury last sprung which was bad and set him back. Jalen Whitlow transfered and was his new teams starter. Smith did have several injuries while here but transfered and was his new teams starter.
Now Towles is transferring and we will see how he does.
But going on the 3rd OC in 4 years under Stoops is awful and that's a reflection on the HC. I'm not a Stoops fan I think he sucks (and I'm being nice) as a head coach. I hope he proves me wrong next year but I doubt it.
Would Gunnar Kiel be immediately eligible or have to sit a year. He's already jerked around 2 or 3 other schools. Would he be a graduate transfer? Otherwise he would have to sit a year and negate any immediate need we would have.
Looks like the walkon Davis Mattingly from Male will move up the depth chart a notch at this point. Not sure if he has any ability to be successful at this level or not. He does have decent size.

You might not understand how things work on a football team. Playing time is earned in practice. If you think that is less true in other programs, that would be incorrect. Fans have their pet players, but the guys who see the field in games have to convince the coaches.I am talking about no quarterback getting a chance for almost all year when every other team gets their backups playing time when the starter is struggling. Would he get any chance next year if Barker struggles? Probably not going to happen.
He definitely has some things to fix. But I am not willing to give up on him yet. He is recruiting well, and seems to be willing to do things to try to correct issues. I think those are great signs.I don't hate Anyone. But I'm not a fan of Stoops coaching I think he sucks but I don't hate him. I've said many times I hope he proves me wrong but that hasn't happened yet.
I find it hard to believe that we have had so many bad QBs the last 3-4 years at UK where NONE of them make it to their senior year.Or not so great quarterbacks. When you hate so much it chokes the thought process.
I'm sort of miffed at Reese...even in seeing him sparingly, he isn't even close to Towles or Barker. Why not just chill out at UK and get your education and in a pinch, you'll play some QB the last 2 years. Where is he going to go and get much run...he's a limited kid.
I disagree with both of you. If I'm a QB I want to play, not ride the pine and "get an education for free". These guys are competitive.Im not sure I get it either. He isnt going anywhere to compete for playing time, unless its down a division or maybe 2.

I typically don't agree with you but this post is 100% spot on. I pray to God Hoak is the guy... But he won't be year one, he won't be year two, he probably won't be year three. We need help at the QB position and we need a capable backup today. If that is Barker or a 5th year guy.Hoak being here early will help. I think we need to go after a JUCO or just get another high school QB and pray Barker doesn't get hurt. And if he does, hope Hoak is somehow ready. But it is a tough situation, so I don't know if that is the way to go or not. Just my thoughts.
Why wouldn't he start here? Barker is only a sophomore now and Hoak would be a freshman. If he came here he would almost easily start.
Coker had two years eligibility left when he transferred to Bama? Interesting.I'm not sure he can come here and play right away anyway. I think the SEC graduate transfer rule requires a graduate transfer to have 2 years of eligibility, which is different than most other conferences.
