I think it's a great addition. Curious if he'll redshirt this season, or maybe the NCAA goes to 5 years with no redshirts, but either way if we keep him for three more seasons I think it's pretty much a given he becomes a contributor. Can't just go out and pick up a 7'+ guy any time you want, and now we have one from Lexington.
We'll have to see his instincts and progression but the best case scenario would be a Jeff Withey career arc -- basically didn't play in his first two seasons at Kansas (3mpg and 6mpg), his third season he takes a big jump and leads the Big 12 in blocks (and has the privilege of going 0-2 against Anthony Davis), and his senior year he's a 2nd team AA.

Excellent get. You don't find guys that big that shoot the 3pt shot as good as that.
Good pickup. If everything goes right, he won’t play much this year, but having a guy who was a mid-major rotation piece step into what would have been a walk-on spot in years past is great for practice depth. Although I wouldn’t necessarily count on it, there’s even an outside chance he could sneak into the rotation by the time he graduates with that size and shooting touch. There’s nothing not to like about this.
Think Pope is planning for the future and figures probably Quaintance and Garrison are gone after this upcoming year so a another big to play with Moreno the following season.
Who knows if he will ever get quality PT at UK, but seems like a good kid to take a flyer on in filling out a roster spot. If it doesn't work during his time here, no biggie, but if it does, it's a great payoff.
He's no Darbyshire, but this does bring a smile to my face.

I could see him getting decent PT. His film is great for a 13th man, he's 7'1 or 2 depending on the source, and he's got two years of D1 experience. I like this pickup. Great practice piece if nothing else.
Pretty slick as well since Perry was being discussed a lot with him leaving and Pope brings in another Kentucky kid to root for.
And like that, the “we lost a Kentucky kid in Perry and that is a problem” crowd is silent. We have 4 Kentucky kids on the roster now (not counting the walkon)…Jasper, Noah, Moreno, and Potter. Almost 25% of our roster has Bluegrass connections. Pope knows what he is doing.

I watched him play HS ball a couple games. Big, ok athlete - not real springy, had decent hands. Did well in HS but I wouldn’t say he was dominating. Definitely a developmental piece, but you can’t teach 7’1”.
Yeah gonna make some good money betting against us this football season. Should win enough money to pay for my tickets to go watch the basketball team.
Thought I saw where he said that he was not going to be a walk on anywhere he went? Wonder how he would match up with FL's 7-9 guy?

With this additional frontcourt player, you would think that Oweh is almost certainly returning. Even though another backcourt recruit could still be in the mix, we should feel confident about Oweh imo.
