And like that, the “we lost a Kentucky kid in Perry and that is a problem” crowd is silent. We have 4 Kentucky kids on the roster now (not counting the walkon)…Jasper, Noah, Moreno, and Potter. Almost 25% of our roster has Bluegrass connections. Pope knows what he is doing.
Personally, I just want the most talented roster possible. I don't care if the kid is from Kentucky, New Hampshire, or Newfoundland.

Love taking him away from UNC.

Great depth/future rotation guy, and might get preseed into action if theres a rash of injury
Probably the sixth option in our frontcourt rotation, but he may be capable to be 4th frontcourt guy in other lesser P5 school, I will take it everyday

Glad to get him.

Hoping I’m wrong but I have ptsd from Shadon Sharpe. Not betting 100% JQ ever suits up here.

Love the pickup. The kid has no pressure to develop here, will compete against top-tier talent over multiple seasons, and he already calls Kentucky home.

It's hard to see this addition as anything other than a no-lose situation. At worst, he is a solid practice piece & frontcourt depth when called upon, and at best, he develops into a contributor.

Pope is getting it done!

I would doubt Pope would roll the dice on such a critical piece without doing all the require due diligence on JQ suiting up. Saw a recent updated report that he should be set for full contact in September. Fingers crossed.

A Kentucky kid that sees UK, not as a stepping stone to a possible future pro basketball career, but as fulfilling a lifelong dream unlike that Ole Miss traitor, er, I mean transfer.

If we were to somehow get Claude. Pure insanity.

I agree ... I hope you're wrong, too.
Question ... does a player receive NIL$$$ if they do not play ?? Just curious ...
Excellent question I would also like to know the answer too. My honest guess is yes they still get paid.

My understanding is yes they still get paid and performance based contracts aren't allowed at this time. Would think that changes in the future at some point so schools have some protection.

Borzello just said we are speaking to Desmond Claude still. I hope that’s just a contingency plan for oweh
I’m behind a little and not familiar with this guy. Is he pretty good or end of the bench type guy?? I’m assuming pretty good if he’s a possible Oweh backup.

Man it sure does sweeten the pot that UNC was chasing him lol. Think a lot of the UNC fans are feeling like we were a year ago with our head coach .
Cal sucked at coaching but at least he could recruit. Hubert sucks at both. Too bad for the Cheats.

I think it's a great addition. Curious if he'll redshirt this season, or maybe the NCAA goes to 5 years with no redshirts, but either way if we keep him for three more seasons I think it's pretty much a given he becomes a contributor. Can't just go out and pick up a 7'+ guy any time you want, and now we have one from Lexington.

We'll have to see his instincts and progression but the best case scenario would be a Jeff Withey career arc -- basically didn't play in his first two seasons at Kansas (3mpg and 6mpg), his third season he takes a big jump and leads the Big 12 in blocks (and has the privilege of going 0-2 against Anthony Davis), and his senior year he's a 2nd team AA.

He put up a fight against AD in title game.

As your 13th man, this is just such a ridiculous get. He's at best our 3rd center. Maybe 4th depending on where Moreno is at as a freshman.

He knew that coming in. He chose Kentucky over bigger roles and more money from Washington and UNC. He's the type of kid that stays for the rest of his career.

He doesn't transfer to Ole Miss to get more NIL. I'm not mad at Perry.

But the "allure" to some of these Kentucky kids is the idea that they'll stay here for multiple years and develop. Perry didn't love Kentucky basketball enough to do it. I get it. This kid does.

Think they said he was 6-6 as a sophomore? Had a fast growth spurt so he is said to still be learning to play like a 7-1 player. Why he has the shooting skill and moves pretty well for a guy that size. Seems like a ton of upside being in our program.
