A ton of fans last year said Reed "had to go" because it was a weak draft. I really wanted him back, but going on was the best choice. I begrudgingly admit that because I selfishly wanted him to light it up for us. I digress.

Out of curiosity, how do you think he would have fared in this draft? He'd be another year older, another year more skilled, have another year of muscle, and he'd have a year in Pope's system. Lets be honest, he'd have killed it here this year.

I'm curious because I read some folks saying the same thing this year about Tre Johnson as they were saying last year about Reed. So what say you? How would Reed have fared this year if he stayed and remained healthy?

Would he have stayed at UK or gone with Cal. Most believe he would have gone with Cal
but with Pope here he might have stayed. His draft stock would have fallen either way.
He made the right call because his draft stock would have never been higher than it was last year

His stock wouldn't have fallen much, if any. Outside of Flagg, this draft is pretty overrated. Clayton might go #2. You guys don't think Sheppard could have beaten out Clayton for that spot?

Reed would have been a 1st Team All-American and probably helped us reach a Final Four. That alone puts him in the top 3 once again, probably ahead of the hype babies at Rutgers.

I picked that he would have fallen between the 4th-14th picks. I don’t see any way possible he would have gone ahead of Flagg, Harper, Bailey, or Edgecombe just based off the athletic ceiling those guys have comparatively, so 5th would be the absolute best case scenario with a few spots lower than that being possible even if he had another outstanding season numbers wise. If his shooting slumped in a second year of college, falling out of the lottery entirely wouldn’t be totally unthinkable. He absolutely made the right choice last year as frustrating as that can be for us as fans.

Nba guys seem to like Edgecombe too. I think Reed would've dropped.

I think he'd have stayed. He should've friggin started, and Pope wouldn't have fumbled him like Cal did. Plus, Reed knows Pope via his dad and the system would've let Sheppard shine.

The choice of 4-14th well i picked that one but it’s more like 6th or better. He would have been a beast and I think he pushes cooper Flagg to the max for poy. Probably make a ff maybe even win it all and he would have been a legend. The nil that was thrown around would have been very substantial. Probably have broke some records.

I still believe that I was RIGHT when I was saying all last summer that Reed should return.
Why? Because his goal shouldn't be to get drafted as high as he could. His goal should have been to put himself in a position to be a successful NBA player, getting more and bigger contracts than just that 1st contract. So I don't think it matters if he would have dropped to the 4-14 pick!
Reed needed to get stronger, see if he could add a little quickness, and become a go-to #1 option scorer (like we saw Clayton the last few weeks for Florida, where the other team knew he was going to shoot it, and they still couldn't stop him).
Had he done those things, he could have entered the league with much better chances of sticking and making a more immediate impact, making that 2nd contract more lucrative.

Sure, you can develop that in the G-league. But a lot of guys just get lost in the G-league, if players don't impress their NBA teams pretty quickly they are almost instantly considered "flops" and almost given-up on.

In the long run, his odds of having a longer career and making more $ would have increased had he stayed.

No shot Clayton goes 2. Flagg , Harper , VJ and Ace are almost certainly going to be in the top 5

Clayton isn't projected to go first round.

Honestly think that if he’d stayed, in Popes system he would have been First team AA and challenged Flagg and Broome for NPOY. I don’t think he could have improved his stock much. Probably would still have been a top 5 pick. I think Flagg would still be number 1.

He's just not that guy.
You can see it plain as day if you've watched him this year.
That 45 mil was the heist of the century.
He just doesn't have SGA, Murray, Fox talent.
Wouldn't be surprised if he's a draft day trade as I don't see a future for him in Houston.
Everything about Reed is also true of Rob.
Seems like his coach has given up on him and it looks like Minnesota will probably go in another direction to replace Conley.

I’m not saying he has all-star talent. But I think if he had further developed, he has 2nd contract talent.

As for RD, I do think he has all-star talent. And think T-Wolves are screwing that up.

I’m torn on this but I lean toward going between 4th and 14th. First, I do think he would have stayed at Kentucky and he would have flourished under Pope.

Buuttttt… this draft has the top 3 solidified. They are locks to be top 3 and no matter what Reed did, he wouldn’t break through. He would probably go 5th or 6th.

I’m glad he went when he did though. He is on a Houston team that is deep at his position so he’s not seen much playing time but hes in a good spot to develop. They don’t need a lot out of him right now.
