Anybody ever seen a ref through a flag AT a coach before? Just happened in the Conant-Palatine game.

Called a penalty on the coach for unsportsmanlike, turned around, and threw the flag at the sideline.

I haven't seen it but I've wanted to do it. Pretty bad form on the ref though if he threw it right at a coach.

Coaches get warned all the time, but once in a while they need a reminder to shut up. The flag could be for lots of thing, from players mouthing off, assistant coaches mouthing off, or even the head coach. Typically, when the flag comes out, for any of those reasons, it gets awarded to the head coach. A second flag includes an escort out of the stadium. Never seen one of those.

The best thing for the referee to do is to throw the flag straight up high, as this is the proper mechanic for a dead ball foul.

Never at a coach, bad form. Throw it up straight and as high as you can.

I would like to throw one at those drones and knock one out of the sky though.

Gunshow, this is what I was expecting as well. Yes, someone probably crossed a line, but as an official, you should be checking your emotions. No matter how difficult that can be sometimes.

yup, correct, directing a UNR flag "at a coach" is bad mechanics and bad professionalism and doesn't help to resolve the difficulties between a coach and official. Just follow the proper procedure for a dead ball foul-announce the penalty to the crew chief and move on to the next play.

Agreed
A Ref is Ref
The spot light should never be about the Ref. No disrespect to the Refs but no one goes to the game to see the Ref!

Well the game isn't about the refs for sure, but neither is it about the coaches, its about the game on the field. Some coaches act unprofessional from week to week, year to year and that is a lot to deal with when referees are trying to officiate the game.

Your right but my point is the Ref should never be in the spot light. I agree with you about the coaches but they are more a part of the team having coached the kids and in many cases have relationships with the fans. Refs have absolutely nothing to do with the teams or fans and should not thrust themselves in the spot light.
