Last night in the WWS/ SCN the North Stars scored on a TD pass with 2 mins left in the game, on the TD pass there was pass interference so SCN took the play and the penalty on the extra point, the ball was placed on the 1 and they went for and got the 2pt conversion.

Is this a new rule? I have never seen a team take a play and a penalty unless it’s a dead ball penalty. What am I missing here?

Penalty on scoring play, offended team gets option of on the try or ensuing kickoff.

Been a rule for at least 5 years, probably longer

should add the penalty must happen before the ready for play, or the option is then taken from the LOS

What is really awesome for the defense inside the red zone is that pass interference in the endzone is half the distance to the goal and not an automatic first down. All DB coaches should teach mugging the receivers in the endzone if you are even in doubt of getting beat.

I think I hate the above rule more than the option of taking the PI on the extra point or kickoff rule.

Saw this in one of our frosh-soph games this season. Is there a change or going to be a change to the college/pro rule of after a runner goes out of bounds, the clock is restarted after the ball is spotted rather than on the ensuing snap. Just curious. Thank you.

It’s already a college and a pro rule. I hope hs adopts the same rule to run it after it’s been spotted. Or even better yet run it once it’s been spotted after an incomplete pass
