On a kick off if the receiving team touches the ball around 10 yard line and then the ball continues into the end zone, is that not still a live ball?

Also if a runner is dragged to the ground by his face mask out of bounds should not be a 15 yard penalty?

no once it breaks the plane of the goal line it is a touchback. That would be considered a muff, touching is not considered possession

Yes if he is dragged to the ground by his facemask in bounds or out it should be a 15 yard penalty

Not a ref but if the ball goes into the end zone on its own momentum even if touched it’s a touchback. Officials would have to rule ball was batted back into end zone for it to not be a touchback I believe. Same if the returner catches the ball running back and his momentum takes him into the end zone.... touchback.

Edit: I see the real ref just beat me to it. At least I wasn’t wrong.

Question, when is it legal for a player with a lineman's number to catch a forward pass?

Has to be end man on line of scrimmage and report as eligible or be in backfield (not certain if have to report if in backfield... need a real ref for that one!)

He is never legal with an ineligible number. There is no reporting in high school. He can take a handoff in the back field but never catch a pass

Thank you. I was wrong on the first instance but I knew I was not wrong and the second. I saw both of these scenarios during the Philips PR game.

I just don’t know how and officials could have a missed The facemask penalty out of bounds.
Sometimes officiating crews have a tendency to allow a little bit of holding etc. on both sides of the ball but somethings just need to be called.

Can't he catch a pass if the ball is tipped by a defender first? I know I gave a lineman a reception this season on that very play.

If it touches a defensive player or an official first yes he can touch/catch legally

If the facemask started in bounds and continued out of bounds, you have a live ball foul. If the facemask occurred completely out of bounds, you have a dead ball foul. It’s important to know WHEN the foul occurred because it is enforced differently at the end of a half and the end of the game, as opposed to, say, the middle a quarter.

1st part is right - The kick doesnt end until its possessed so if it is muffed/touched its still considered a kick and when it breaks the plane (as a kick) its a Touchback.

2nd part - MOMENTUM Isnt correct. When a players momentum takes him into the end zone after possession is made within the 5 yard line, its marked, if the ball becomes dead in the EZ with the same player in possession the ball comes back out to where he possessed the ball prior to his momentum taking him in. NOT a Touchback

If his momentum takes him in and he was OUTSIDE the 5 yard line and it becomes dead with him in possession in the EZ, its a safety.

Dead ball officiating is important, thats why proper mechanics would have a wing getting the spot, turning and facing OOBs to clean up and ensure that cheap/illegal stuff doesnt take place.

This isn’t even true in college. Numbers 50-79 can line up anywhere, and carry the ball but NEVER can be downfield on a pass, and can’t be the first to touch a forward pass.

I guess I've never noticed this and am basing off NFL. Learn something new every day!

IMO the refereeing has been 100% better so far in the playoffs than during the regular season...

Sorry, just throwing this out there..
