Regarding Amazon

I'm an occasional Amazon customer; most often things like minor electronics/accessories which are sometimes unavailable locally.....or else difficult to purchase at a reasonable (as I define it) cost at conventional retail.

Well, I broke that convention last week with the following purchase:

Sold by: hOme
$209.99

The device was Prime delivered without incident......and after a couple days of use, I decided I really didn't care for it very much (for reasons that really aren't all that important). Plus, I admittedly (and quite unexpectedly) came across a relatively comparable Frigidaire unit at Costco for $40 (plus tax) less. With that in mind, I bought the Costco model and processed a return/refund on the hOmeLabs unit. Amazon responded to my request almost immediately with the following comment:

Refunded
There's no need to return your item. Your refund has been issued

While I realize physical returns are often times are more complicated (and costly to manage) for Amazon than they might be in the conventional retail universe, I was downright flabbergasted they're not requiring this unit to be returned. In the event the Big A changes it's mind, I'm keeping the unit (and its packaging) in the corner. But it's almost hard to believe they're not insisting on a return.....which I'm perfectly willng/prepared to make.....in exchange for the refund, .

Anyway, has anyone else experienced anything like this with Amazon ???

No, I have not but being involved and understanding the cost of items such as this in a retail environment, I'm not surprised. It will cost them more to have you return it and put back through their inventory process and probably having to return it to the vendor than it will for you to keep it. This type of circumstance is typically budgeted for in the Retail world.

Yes, I have. When the shipping and handling of dealing with a refurb is going to cost more than the unit, they typically say keep it, do what you want with it.

Sometimes I’ll pick up items from Amazon instead of going through my normal distribution channels. Recently picked up a replacement bulb for a projector. The replacement bulb died after a day, I put in for a return, had another replacement bulb by the end of the week. I’ll now be buying all my replacement bulbs directly from that seller in the future.
