I’d rather us keep recruiting Ohio than trying to compete with sec schools in the south
I understand the thought of getting a good recruiter, and MS ST has had pretty solid classes the last few years, but the VAST majority of their classes have been MS kids. Having that much in-state talent makes the job a ton easier.
So, I think the question for someone like him is...can he recruit well for talent that isn't homegrown ?
UK has far fewer kids from Ohio than what some of you all think. The majority of UKs starters are from the south. More from Alabama than Ohio.
I'd rather we not focus on any specific state for recruits. We need to recruit nationally to be able to compete at the highest levels. Hopefully Stein's offense will make us more attractive to potential recruits. There's now no reason we shouldn't be able to recruit nationally. All of our games are on the ESPN network. We are in one of the two relevant football conferences. The only thing missing is an offense that actually scores points and generates excitement. Stud offensive recruits didn't wanna come play in Stoops 1980s Big Ten style offense. And I doubt many of the stud defensive recruits wanted to play in his "bend but don't break" beta defense.
Here is what gets me. I honestly believe UK is getting some killer recruits right now. Dudes that want to be here and they are walking on. Mark my word, in 2,3 or 4 years yall will be talking about some of our ky kids that only are here because they love Kentucky!
