If you're only 5'11" and 220 pounds, you're just too small to play football.

I never missed Inside The NFL when Len Dawson and Nick Buoniconte hosted the show. It was outstanding. The show today doesn't even come close. Nick Buoniconti is in the Italian American Hall of Fame and of course the NFL HOF. Great player and human being.

By the way, did any of you see the special HBO had on Nick Buoniconti fairly recently? I think it was HBO. It was outstanding. They talked about everything in his life. He was suffering from dementia when it was produced and you could see the effects. They talked to a lot of people around him, including Nick as well. You could see it was affecting his speech and thought process. Very sad. They also talked about his son and his football injury. I remember when they talked about it at the time on Inside the NFL too.

He admitted to his mistakes in life, etc. like most people do. One was the fact he was doing sales ads for smokeless tobacco. I do remember when they had him on 60 Minutes about it. Later on, he realized the truth about the dangers of tobacco. It takes a big man to admit mistakes. I liked that guy.

My Dad had dinner in some airport with Len Dawson some time ... I still have the signed TWA boarding pass jacket somewhere.

The early 70's Miami Dolphins were the teams that made me fall in love with football. Shula's restaurant in downtown Indianapolis has unbelievable photos of those old Miami teams. Sad to hear of his passing away

At 5-11 and 220 in 2019, odds are the current "metrics" required of the MLB position at the pro level would prevent this from happening now.

I love when guys do this. Dude...you can't compare one era to another as far as athletes' size, speed etc. goes. The mid 60s and early 70s was a different world than we live in now. I've had this same kind of discussion with a friend about Babe Ruth playing in today's game.

The whole notion is silly. You can't just take a guy, put him in a time machine and bring him here. If you were to try to have a discussion about this in theory, you would have to have the player come here when he is...say...three or four years old. Then, you have him grow up eating the food we eat in the present and working out with today's knowledge in conditioning and medicine. Let's not forget how much PEDs have advanced too. That is a huge part of the equation.

Simple food like chicken and turkey have fillers and steroids in them in today's world. There is a theory out there now that suggests this is a part of the reason young men are growing bigger now more than ever...women too. Part of the reason. I think more widespread use of PEDs also contributes. Kids in high school are doing this. Anyone who doesn't think so is naive.

I know you aren't talking about the man himself and are talking about his body stats. But you put a guy like Buoniconti here and let him grow in today's world and who knows? Maybe he ends up 3 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier and faster.

Really - roids are common in HS?

I may be naive - but I KNOW my teammates were clean. Honest to God ... we all read that Sports Illustrated with Lyle Alzado on the cover and the way it was taught to us, if you did steroids, even one cycle, your dick shrivelled up and never worked again. None of us was taking that chance!

Mike Singletary would be too small by today's standards too.
