Does anyone have a breakdown for the 4 best teams in the SEC. Ala1 and Ala2, FL and TN.

How many starters are portal guys?
How many 5****?
Organic program guys?

Obviously we were all portal guys.

Does Pope just need time to mix program and portal?

Each team is different. Not certain about 4 and 5 stars but

Oats gets higher level recruits...he has two McDonald's all Americans this year, and a 3rd that transfered from auburn...theres also damn good talent locally in state

I know auburn has atleast 1 but has had 4 or so in the last 5 years.

I think barnes has more portal and program guys

Not sure about Florida

I'll really be laughing if Tennessee wins tomorrow and the Vols fans think the SEC tournament means anything when they see : seed (1) Florida and (2) Tennessee somewhere (like in the east with 1)dUKe) LOL.

I'm all about GO VOLS ! tomorrow, cause if the Vols lose, it's no doubt they get a 2 seed anyways, but what the hey, we're just basketball bennies here having fun. Beating the Gators and seeing them get at least a seed line or two ahead of you on selection Sunday ? been there, done that. Let the Vols feel what it feels like, win or lose. But, of course Florida wins tomorrow, right? Just a subplot. Funny thought.

Too many factors for there to be a 'secret sauce'. Just need solid, smart, athletic, unselfish etc players. This team was constructed well, all things considered. I firmly believe we are a solid 2 seed if healthy all year. We currently have no concrete reason to believe that Pope cannot construct a great roster. On the contrary, I think he's demonstrated the opposite. We have seen that he can. Folks, we're gonna be fine.

Great info. It just shows how quickly things have changed. In the matter of about 5 years the concept of a roster with guys you recruited in as freshmen no longer exists. Finding Johni Broomes is job 1

Agree. I suppose that the injury bug will cost Pope a well deserved COTY Award. I think we see a big change in year 2 because Pope will not run guys off like Cal.

did you hear dykes talking about philon last night? i think what he was trying to say just came out wrong. basically that philon rendered himself making a pass to sears for a game winning shot in a kiddy drawing when he was 8 years old. it immediately made one’s mind think, “that’d make sears about 32 years old. yeah that seems about right”.

It's a time when it sure seems like a struggle just to keep your guys. But all four of those teams did do it with a few program guys each. I noticed that those teams also built continuity with multi-year transfers and freshmen who got better that 2nd year.

Best thing about this list is that I count at least 17 players that won't be back and that's just from 4 teams.

I think this kind of shows you need a mix, but if there was ever a secret sauce its for sure the Portal. I do think you need some returning guys to give you depth and system experience, but damn the portal has really changed the game from year to year. Personally I think we have about the right amount of decent ranked freshman coming in next year, but we need a great portal haul to get the ship right next year. I also think people don't need to get hung up on superstars, you need really good players that fit the system. So you need to the right players rather than the best players if that makes sense. You can't just have a team for of ball hogs that are used to jacking up every shot on mid major and not willing to play as a team at this level.

All the posters that complain about our mid major talent need to take a good look at those rosters.
