Phil Smidt's was in Whiting not Gary.

There are many good restaurants in Munster, Griffith and Merriville. Use Yelp or open table to find them.

Big Frank's Sausage in East Chicago has a following, particularly among those left in the petro and steel industries out that way.

Freddy's Steakhouse in Hammond it has been there forever and food is pretty good and the decor still says 70's Steakhouse.
