No. He’s probably one of the greatest to play for Duke but what does that say for Kyle, Scheyer, Nolan and Grayson. All stayed graduated from Duke and brought home a national championship.

No. Grayson, Scheyer, Smith, Singler, Cook didn't get theirs retired, and they all achieved more than Zion. Love him but no, just no.
No way it will be retired...I’m not sure we will ever see another jersey retired unless someone transcendent comes along again like Zion and we win it all...short of that it won’t happen...
Dukiejay May be correct though...if Zion end s up an All Time great in the league they may look back 15-20 years from now and change the standard for hoisting one up to the rafters...

If they won a title this year, then they should've hung up his jersey. But since they lost, nope.

Yeah... I've had the same thought, that if he does in the NBA what some believe, he WILL get something.
I stand by he's the best basketball player we've ever had. But to have your number hanged needs many, many achievements. In only one year, it can't be done.

I was waiting to start this thread to see if we won a National Championship. If we had, I’d say for sure yes: Duke Records, NPOY, and a natty would have been pretty much all the boxes other than graduating. I think we came one basket away the last two years from seeing two guys have their jerseys hanging in Cameron. So bummed.
nope...he has been awesome and an ambassador for our program. Conducted himself very well BUT....despite the stats and awards, banners are for winners, and this team didnt win enough to warrant retiring anyones jersey

There is nothing that can be done in 1 year that warrants a jersey being retired. If anything Zion’s year only confirms that as he did pretty much everything that can be done, outside a title. As much as I will never criticize a player for leaving, in doing so, I believe you are forfeiting certain items. Having your jersey retired is one of them.
I wouldn’t necessarily say we would have won but I also don’t think we would have been embarrassed. I also think if that shot goes in for Grayson and that team makes the finals we are talking about retiring his jersey more seriously, whether we had beaten Villanova or not.
There's a criteria set in place for retiring Duke numbers. As great as Zion is he doesn't meet the criteria. It can't be changed just for him. I think he is the best freshman ever to play college basketball. I shutter to think what he would be like as senior. OFC
No.. and If JWill would not have finished his degree at Duke in 3 yrs I would have said no to him as well...
