Why not today?
When 3 of your starters are scoreless and act like they are afraid to shoot then you’re probably picking the wrong first five.

This is the type of thing that was clearly evident from about the 2nd day the coach was here if you knew what you were looking for.

‘Konkol is in over his head’ was just an accurate of a statement back then as it is today.

the K era can’t end too soon. A pathetic effort against a mediocre team. Not one player wanted to give the effort to win.
Surely Moore and Carson know it’s time for a change. Now would be better than year end.

That gives you a head start for getting a new staff, because you won’t be considering any of the current assistant coaches.

I still am not absolutely confident he will get canned this year.

Boy we suck. Really.
It really can't get much worse than this. I mean, it can always get worse (e.g., Konkol's first year), but within the universe of results that TU can realistically have, this is about as bad as it gets. Rice was 3-11 in the AAC and had lost 11 of their last 12, including losses to 3-11 Charlotte and 4-10 UTSA. I naively thought we'd bottomed out but I'm not sure there is a bottom with Konkol.

The radio crew said we match up better with Tulane than Rice for next game.

We appear to have lost all confidence, energy and effort today. It shows up everywhere in our FG shooting, rebounding , FT shooting, and defense. Unfortunately it is approaching the same thing I saw in December of 2004 , the night ORU beat us in the Reynolds Center 70-47.

I thought that Dickson was responsible for that extension.
From TulsaHurricane.com on 9/5/2024:

After leading the Golden Hurricane to an 11-win improvement in his second season at the helm, Tulsa men's basketball head coach Eric Konkol's contract was extended through the 2029 season, University of Tulsa Vice President and Director of Athletics Justin Moore announced today.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think that decision had already been made before Moore was hired.
Yes it was said that Dickson approved and agreed to the extension and left it to Moore to announce. Moore had no reason or knowledge to contradict Dickson at that point.

All I can say for sure is that the press release only mentions Moore. Even if not originally responsible for this fiasco, it may not be a good look for him to pull it almost immediately after it was put into place.

just walked out of the theater and noticed a basketball thread
Central Michigan won today, Pritchard had a triple double. Maybe it was the coach more than the player at Tulsa? Oh, this is the Tulsa game thread... my mistake...
Regarding that situation, it was more of the other players (cancers) on that squad and in conjunction with a need to be further away from distractions in the Tulsa area if he was ever to be successful... It was a good move for the kid.

We should let everyone we know we are fed up
I’m a mid donor not a mega but I will be asked
The product on the floor for the past 8ish years hasn't exactly enticed any new doners either. I think there's a lot of TU grads who were part of the Steadman era where we had some decent basketball and football that are now coming into their prime employment years and would be drawn to donate if they were actually given a reason and shown that there money wasn't being wasted.

It always seemed in those years like we just needed to get over the hump, and something really special was going to take off (kind of like we've seen at SMU, Houston, or Wichita).... it just never materialized and the graduates lost interest during this long period of suck-i-tude.

The majority of the last 5 seasons has been the worst TU basketball in history…at any school.

Both major sports have been beyond awful since the end of COVID and the rise of the NIL/Portal Era. Maybe there’s some alignment to the Brad Carson era as well.

I added Carson to the demise because there have been spending decisions in athletics to minimize financial impacts. I got it at first, but his mindset hasn’t changed. We’ll see what happens in the future.

Konkol will be here next year. Will he be fired next year? Maybe. But…It won’t matter, because minimal money will be spent on the next coach. They’ve put a lot of eggs in the football basket (in their opinion), so they’ll just let basketball ride with a coach signed through 2029.
