Before I start I'd like to introduce myself. I'm a somewhat recent BR grad and new here, although I have been following the discussions on here without an account (until now).

So, tough one today. Really feel for the kids out there. I'm interested as to what the consensus is on how next year's team will perform, also who the next QB will be for next year. Many of our offensive skill positions will be held by new players. Was really hoping to see a rematch with Loyola.

Rice alum here (Class of 87), Badke appears to be recruiting nicely it seems but next year will be a rebuilding year. Our top 2 QBs are Seniors but to that end we had some underclassmen play some significant minutes and the Sophs did well. But in the Blue experience helps big time. Plus Losing Smalling (best player I've ever seen at Rice), Vallday, Houston and Lacy cannot be easily replaced. Too damn good.

Yes a tough home loss - was likewise hoping for a rematch. Next year will be a battle between Sullivan (Jr this year) along with Bean (Soph QB) and Smyth (Frosh QB). I think Bean has better arm and legs so far, but Smyth not too far behind. Granted Borelli didn't get a lot of reps in games as a Jr so can't gauge Sullivan too much - he's a tough kid who can scramble but don't know if he has the arm or not. Rice does lose a lot in skilled positions but they have a couiple of guys who can jump in as Juniors/Sophs (I think RB will be Williams, Plunkett and/or Rice - if Plunkett not the RB he'll be a Houston type player. Yes losing Smalling is a huge hit. But then again I don't see any other Smalling like players at MC, SR, Marist or Provy currently so should be a level playing field on that front. Badke (who is also the DC is going to have to get FS/SS who have speed. We got beat way too many times this year on the long ball) Overall a really tough loss but life goes on

I agree. I know Sophs were very good, not sure about frosh. can't complain though, the coaches in fball, hoops, and baseball are doing great jobs.

Next year is a tossup in CCL Blue - everyone loses a lot of key players - even LA (losing Herrion, 4 of 5 guys on their OL, the best LB, Swenson, etc) is a hit. PC loses Drake, Malone, Warfield (but does have a lot of Juniors on OL coming back). Rice has 4-5 guys back on both sides as does Rita. MC depends on whether Thomas plays or not. Without him they'll be good but not great. Marist actually returns a good crop - they have Teague, Meehan, Ivy, Harrell, Taylor, Skalitzky, Green and McCabe all back so I'd say Marist is the team to beat on Southside next year.

I also think Marist will be hard to beat next season, There are two meehans on Marist roster. Colin Meehan Senior, and Danny Meehan who is a junior. Who was the better player.

How about the qb for the sophomores this past season? Went 18-0 freshman and sophomore years

And very good friends. Next year is a toss up for rice. The freshman and sophomore classes are very good. A lot of speed and size. Linebacker is a question mark the next few years as it has been since Badke has been there

Veal is a very solid OLB - as long as he stays healthy. Possible move to ILB for him.
Veal is just an athlete would be productive anywhere for rice. think he is going to play offense next tear as he is prolly the best athlete on u the team.

Look for rice to struggle next year as its hard to be c good with mostly Jr's look at pc this past year. dominate 2018 class and still hard to win .
