Maybe I'm an old man but I have been like this all my life. I get why people would want to be rich. For the life of me, I can't figure out why anyone would ever want to be famous.

Probably not a great example because Brandt Snedeker is rich by most standards but would you rather be Brandt Snedeker or Tiger Woods? Brandt can go out to dinner.

I think being famous would be awesome on occasion - can get into exclusive places, people fawning over you, hot chicks, etc. But being famous 100% of the time seems completely miserable

I wish you had included a few more options. Such as: “Satisfied,” “Generous,” “Joyful,” “Loved.”

Your list is one that people believe bring about the above. Regardless of the method, these are the things I would want, with or without money or fame. Because, we have ample evidence that neither money nor fame deliver without something more. I want the “more.”

I think famous is relative. I'm sure there are places Tiger can walk into where people leave him alone. I have lived in some suburbs where a lot of famous people lived, rock stars, actors, etc.. It was so common seeing them, they were left alone. When you live in Hollywood where people go to see and be seen by others, that's a different story. It's the life they chose.

I think being someone like Steve Zahn wouldn't be bad. He's famous but lives in Lexington and he's not a guy who would get rushed at the mall or unable to eat a meal privately or worry about their picture being taken all the time.

But an A lister actor or music star? No thanks and that's probably why these people are mentally unstable, have issues with drugs, and what not.

I've met Steve Zahn many many times because he used to come into a restaurant where I worked in Lexington. years before this I had a friend that worked at the Starbucks downtown and he and his wife went in there regularly. One day my friend asked his wife why they frequent that store when it is so inconvenient if you don't work down there and his wife said that they like it because no one ever bothers them. Thus I never acknowledged he was anything other than a regular customer when he came in.

There was one day while he was sitting there waiting for his food and some guy saw him and went "OMG YOU'RE STEVE ZAHN!" and he was very polite and shook his hand what not. After he walked off Zahn looked at me went "OMG I'M STEVE ZAHN!"

I would take rich. Knowing my family was 100% secure and being able to help others would be very appealing. Speaking for myself only I could care less about being rich. I’m a running joke in my family about the old clothes I wear, old car I drive. Stuff like that means zero to me.

I don’t really care about fame, especially if I were rich. If I were rich I would actively try to not be famous. Gimme that money and……..

People can hate on Taylor Swift all they want. She is worth probably $500,000,000. You can hate her music and hate her politics. Fair enough.

But there is scene in her Netflix documentary where she is doing someones nails. The woman says "When did you learn how to do this?" and Taylor replies "I had to when I realized I can never go out again"

That to me would be miserable.

Those are four things that are easy to obtain. Give people the “rich” money and they can make em all WAY better guaranteed

I agree. I've been fortunate and am retired at 51. But I still wear old clothes and drive an old truck. My wife complains that I'm willing to spend so much on dinner and beer but won't buy new clothes. My response is always that I have more fun eating good food and drinking beer than I do wearing clothes. Famous seems like it would suck.

Really? All the rich people you know have well-adjusted kids and awesome lives? You should write a book explaining how those four things are “easy.” If you have the secret, THAT would make your rich.

Pretty sure if you're famous and not a complete moron, you can get rich.

However, I'd take rich over famous every day. Care nothing about people recognizing me on the street or sucking up to me just because I'm 'somebody'. If I were rich, not many people would know it, though. I'd give a lot more to charity anonymously, I'd drive a nice but not hugely expensive car, wouldn't have a huge, gaudy home, no Rolex, etc. I'd make sure my kids were set up nicely, would pay for their trips to see me and/or vacation with me, etc.

Being rich doesn't solve all your problems, especially being 'loved'. It does make many of them much less stressful, though.

You said satisfied, generous, joyful, loved. You didn’t include adjusted kids and awesome lives. Don’t see that being relevant. My kids do dumb **** and they’re all grown. But I’m satisfied, generous, joyful and loved. Maybe not awesome but pretty dang close. If I only had a couple million…

Write your book. Get that couple million and then be generous with it.

BTW, I would think having satisfaction (which probably means you could give those millions away), generosity (ditto), joy, and the knowledge you are loved would be an awesome life. Just my conclusion.

Both but would probably take the fame, preferably an actor or musician so I could hookup with all the hot actresses/models I lusted after.

Just being rich isn't necessarily going to get you some famous strange. Lots of rich guys around, but they aren't on set. No amount of money could match banging young Jennifer Aniston, Charlize Theron, Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson, Marisa Tomei, Sandra Bullock, Mila Kunis, or Margot Robbie.

You won't even get Roller Girl from Boogie Nights and she dated James Woods, a man who looks like a burnt lizard, but a FAMOUS burnt lizard.
