Can anybody tell me why RS So CB Richard Benjamin still has not seen the field? The 3 star 2013 recruit had offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and all the Florida schools. I think he had a early injury but can he still be hurt? I thought he would be in there ahead of lesser recruits like Washington and Cannon at CB. Has he even played a snap as a Card in his career?

I have no idea, other than to say that perhaps he hasn't beaten out the guys in front of him.

You don't set your starting lineup based on the opinions of recruiting rankings.

I didn't say anything about recruiting rankings. I just was wondering if anyone knew why he wasn't playing. The fact he had so many big time offers is kind of perplexing to me.

Only one reason...not good enough to earn reps yet.

I looked up his recruitment, and although his offer list is impressive, it doesn't appear he had offers from Alabama, Georgia or Oklahoma.

College football is a whole other level than high school. Their talents don't always match up.

Actually, you did.

Pervis and aj answered your question.
Actually, I did not. Nowhere did I say anything about a ranking. I did say he was a 3 star but that was just an acknowledgment. If he had been a 2 star or a 4 star it wouldn't have changed the purpose of the question I was asking. And nobody so far has really answered it. Just conjecture like me with injury.

The reason I'm perplexed is the many big time offers he had as a recruit. Again, not his star rating. There are other players who haven't seen the field yet now in their third season here that I haven't inquired about. That's because they were not highly recruited players. Benjamin was and I think it's legit asking why he hasn't seen the field. I doubt that's because he's not good enough. CB is a much needed position on this team and he could at least be on the special teams.

from Keith Wynne in August:

"The other guys on the roster that I'm hoping could flip that switch are Terrance Ross, Richard Benjamin, and Devontre Parnell. All have shown flashes in practice or on special teams but with the secondary having a few open spots this year, one would hope that they step up their game like Holliman did last year."

I'm guessing this is how the phrase flip the switch entered the thread. It's not over yet.

How about this for top offers - James Hearns has offers listed in the Media Guide from Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Georgia, Notre Dame and Ohio State. How could it be any better ? Redshirt Soph who has played little.

At least he's played. Besides, there's a lot of talent ahead of him at LB. And I think they have moved him to the DL. Another LB with big offers is Stacy Thomas who so far has seen mostly special teams duty.

I haven't even heard Benjamins name in the two years he's been here. If not for the roster I would have figured he left the program.

Yes, he's running second string at RDE. Playing about 1/3rd of the time while Pio Vatuvei gets the majority of the snaps. Against spread teams like Houston and Samford, we often played with just 2 DLs, and a lot of that time they were Rankins and Brown.

Frankly, I thought Grantham made a mistake when he didn't play Bailey and Hearns more against Houston. Our DL starters had seen so many snaps that they were not as effective in the 4th quarter.

Stacey Thomas will almost certainly be a starter either next year after Burgess graduates.
