If Trents UK career ends up going like it looks like its going to go, who ends up being the most beloved player between the two.
Seems to be a lot of parallels between the two. ( Being from the mountains etc )
Leaving out Richies post UK issues.

Hopefully Trent avoids the joint.

Ford was way faster.
Are you comparing the JR & SR Ford (his 4th & 5th years) to the FR Perry?
Ford did nothing as a Soph, nor do I think he did much as a FR at Missouri 2 years earlier.

I expect both Perry and Noah to become more built, and leaner, and yes quicker after this summer. Will anyone confuse them with Oweh or Butler? No!!!
Perry should aim higher than Farmer. But he's not a true PG like Ford. Perhaps he should look at Lofton (you're welcome UT).
Noah, I like how he plays, he tries to do the little things. Getting stronger, leaner, jump higher, quicker, should help his game even more than Perry's. Feldhaus was not the shooter he is. But build-wise, yeah that's what he should shoot for. As for game, maybe Pelphrey's is closer or Almonor.

Ford was also turning 32 when he was done, lol. I bet a 23 Perry would be pretty good in college.

Missouri was ranked number one in the nation with Travis Ford as a point guard. He was the backup. Averaged 20 plus minutes

Travis Ford smoked the skills competition at the senior All-Star game in 1994. Perry may wind up being a better player, but he's not going to be faster than Travis Ford.

I understand and appreciate the unforgettable references. Perry is closer to Farmer and Noah shows signs (and has size) to become Pelphrey (if he’s skilled enough) or Feldhaus of he can bang and overachieve.

I sometimes think people group those guys together and forget how good Pelphrey was. He was like a generic Bird In college.

i think the opposite......i think time romanticizes things and makes them seem better than they were.
pelphry and bird in the same sentence is basketball blasphemy

I assume you didn’t read the generic part and appreciate the 14, 6 and 5 stuff that Pelphrey brought in college.

I know he held his hands up and we lost to Duke. Time to get over that

Semantics. So you must hold a grudge against Pelhrey I dont. He was a really good player in college. More so than Knecht who you must like.

Travis Perry looks and moves just like Travis Ford, IMO.

Nice call, Msrine
Hadn't thought about that - !

Noah is an enigma to me
I love comparing current UK players to former ones but am not sure who he matches up with

Derrick Hord maybe?
Roughly same size - excellent shooters

Yeah but doesn’t have the vision like Ford. Richie was an undersized combo guard with limited athleticism, poor defender but excellent offensive scorer who gained prominence for being a big scorer in KHSAA
not yet but I remember we got Ford as Missouri transfer as a sophomore, lets see what Perry looks like next year. The little guy at Creighton would be a guy Perry should try and emulate

Agree. He came in listed as 6'4 but he looks a legit 6'7 or more now. Great shooter. Great nose for the ball. Physical. Athletic. Smart. Fearless.

Kid will be a player next year or at worst year after.
You know, to me Noah looks 6'5", maybe 6'6". But that's quibbling, and maybe your perception is better than mine. Regardless, I don't think it matters. With his skill, body and strength potential Noah has everything he needs to be a really good college SF at either height.

I'd guess 6'5 as well.

A mix of Feldhaus and Pelphrey.

Respectfully ... I don't see how you can "leave out" Richie's "post-UK issues." If a convicted felon is your "most beloved player" ... well ... my grandmother always told me, "If you can't say something nice, just don't say anything at all", and I guess I'll just follow her advice.

Richie Farmer is one of the biggest legends the state of Kentucky has ever had in basketball. In my lifetime (in 48), it’s Richie and Rex and then a pretty significant gap to anyone else imo.

Part of their legacy is that guys who played back then didn’t have social media or TV prior to college. They were almost like a folklore. They were such huge deals before they ever stepped on campus.

If Travis Perry played in the 80’s, his legendary status coming out of high school would be up there with Ritchie and Rex imo. It’s just different now with exposure. Most people used to see these guys shoot a basketball for the first time at Midnight Madness…the build up was insane.

I have a hard time seeing anyone have the popularity of Ritchie, simply because of the difference in coming up in the 80’s vs today.

Travis Ford was a beast and my favorite player growing up. Jalen Rose called him "the college Steve Nash."

A lot of parallels? Being from Eastern Kentucky is pretty much it. Noah is way bigger, more athletic, and frankly, a far better basketball player at this stage of both of their careers. As a freshman Farmer shot 28% from the field and from three, while playing defense like someone had put glue on the soles of his shoes. Noah is shooting 57% from the floor and 53% from three, while being active on defense. Richie Farmer would be completely lost in today's college game, while Noah has shown beyond any doubt that he belongs on the floor. Most beloved between the two? Barring a devastating injury, that will be Noah, and it's not close.

Very low sample sizes, but it's interesting Noah is now shooting 53% from three and Perry is up to 40%. These two guys can't be left open...and if they can physically mature and get more cut up, they can be major players at this level.

I agree with the guy who said garner would be lost in todays game. I remember the hype around farmer then the disappointment as was pointed out he didn’t shoot the ball like he did in hs. He’s a hs legend and a UK footnote

Richie Farmer was a great high school basketball player and more athletic than you think. I believe he jumped center. I think high school basketball was bigger back then than it is now so his accomplishments just seem greater than Perry or Noah (despite their numbers). But maybe I'm just being nostalgic.
