Certainly seems like Guyton already took the spot. In any case, I think it's important that we add an African-American assistant in the wake of both Baldwin and Gates having left.
Could he assume Guyton’s role? Assuming Guyton slides into the open assistant spot.
I don't love the trend of college programs hiring high school coaches to get recruits...
...but I also really like Steward's game. Would be the perfect heir to Lathon, if not start alongside him immediately. An interesting thought.

Guyton in the role now, but the spot is open and will be interviews. malnati won't be an option.

He’s already coached at the D1 level and is a heck of a coach. He’d be a nice fit to add to the staff.
Thanks for the update, assuming your sources are as good as they usually are. No doubt Malnati is a good coach and might have been a good fit to replace Donlon or James, but not to replace Gates.
Hiring H.S. coaches is a way of doing business in the NCAA basketball. Just look at Illinois, who have done such for years. Taking Guyton's position would seem like a good idea.
Malnati won’t do that. He has already been an assistant at the D1 level with Loyola and doubt he would settle for anything less. Also not sure his personality is a fit. He is an alpha and likes to be in charge. My guess is that there is not enough room for him and Collins on the staff.
First off Malnati is not really an alpha. He’s a great coach, but there are other guys who are way more Alpha coaches. Second if he took a position it wouldn’t be setting it would be doing exactly what he wanted to do. Going out on a limb here, but he’s pretty well set between the pizzas and decades at New Trier and Fenwick.
My only point was that it would be unlikely for him to slot into the role that Guyton is currently filling. As far as the rest, my post was based on a recent interview and years of observing him on the sidelines.
