The thing that concerns me about this is that SC is the one who made the call, opting for Muschamp. I'd rather it had been Riley's decision...to turn down their offer, and stay put...

I think Rileys age and inexperience will work against him. He is hot right now but in all actuality he still needs a few more years to grow and be ready for a big time head coaching position IMO

A couple of things...he would be much better off in our system of administration (coaches et all) to learn all of the ropes for at least two more years. I will not knock his achievements this year as they have rolled since Texas, but he really came into a great situation with the assistant coaches onboard and the talent to put on the field. Baker being #1.

Well yeah, but ....

Turning down an SEC head coaching job to keep an OC job, even at OU, is not something most competetive men would do. Even if it would be better in the long term. I think there could still be a job good enough to entice him. Just maybe not this year.

Agree, Plaino...Beyond this year, who knows? Nothing is a lock. AM-(After Mayfield), Riley and Stoops may both pale as Top Dawg Coaches and appear boringly Ordinary...

Well, we just need him to keep the blinders on until mid January, then have at him.

I knew he was a marketable commodity, just blind sided me that it would happen at the worst possible time, right now.

Coaches don't determine wins or losses anyways, so who cares who we have. Heck make fitty the OC

I believe you are correct Soonermade. He is settling into a conference that his coaching methods work...a longtime Sooner Coach to be in the works. Now if he can get some big deal recruits he will be the man...

Could it be that he's expecting to take over at OU when Bob retires or leaves?
I very seriously doubt this. At least at this point. Riley hasn't even been at OU for a year. Doubt Bob would already have him tagged to be his replacement. Now in time, I think that could be a possibility.

In my opinion though, if there was an assistant on staff right now that could be the next head coach, I would have to say Cale Gundy. He's been with Bob from the beginning, and he just got promoted up to Assistant Head Coach after last season.

In some respects, Muschamp was very unlucky at Florida. His last two years, their injury totals seemed off the charts. And they seemed to be terrific on defense, solid talent on offense, but yearly quarterback issues. And the lots of missing guys.

I think Will might take a lesson from Bob Stoops teams this season. It is a lot easier to play good defense if you have a lot of physicality in practice. You just learn more with practice is full tilt in practice with full contact. But that same philosophy can lead to losing a lot more players. And I also think it wears your players down more over the course of a season.

Bob cut way back on practice contact this year, especially in the pre-season. You didn't see any video this year of Oklahoma drills. And Bob even talked about cutting back on contact in the preseason. I believe that has paid a huge dividend in 2015. OU looked better in November than all but maybe one year of the Stoops era.

You have to make some personnel decisions without as much information about who might be better at some things ... like tackling. But I believe it was a great decision.

Muschamp is as hard nosed as Bob. But sometimes, less is better. I can't remember a year since 2000 that we've been this healthy at the end of a season. I don't think that is a coincidence.

I've already heard they are unfortunately. I don't think he would take that job unless it is just unreal money. Wait a year or two more and get something way better or maybe OU coach in waiting type thing.
Its all in the timing though. I think OU will have a exciting offense next year with some one of the best backfields in the nation so he would buy himself a better job if OU does great next year also but you can never know what happens with injuries.
