This +1000He IS a very smart guy. A very good guy. He knows how to run an organization, is a proven executive, is a proven fund raiser (very important as an AD), and is an effective communicator. IMO, having previous experience as an AD may be a bit over rated when it comes to NU's job. I'm fine with him if that is who Bounds and the Regents wants. IMO, maybe he can finally put the stench of Pederson, Callahan and Pelini behind us.
Agree about Bounds. Further, he's not a "Nebraska" guy himself. I would assume that if anyone was predisposed to make an unqualified hire based on past ties to Nebraska, it would not be him. We'll see. Hank Bounds does not seem like someone who makes unqualified nepotism hires. I think we will go after more proven athletic directors and if they say no, they might offer Rimington the permanent position. I think he would be foolish to leave his current job, which seems awesome, to take a job with this amount of pressure and scrutiny.
I'll say this, I'd rather have Rimington any day over Trev Alberts.
He would only recommend firing a coach.I wonder there are limits in his authority, such as firing coaches.
I never understood why Eichorst went solo on the Riley hire. I understand that was his job to a lesser extent but hiring a company to advise him would give him more wiggle room in case Riley was/is a failure. Given Riley's coaching record (including his last 4 years at OSU) he had to known it would be a head scratcher and a tough sell to Husker Nation.
Didn't mean it that way, but maybe it is what "the Dr." orderedtee hee
What that tells me is that he thought he had his guy all locked up, there was no need for a search firm. The Riley hire to me was always knee jerk and reactionary. I think the original guy said no and Eichorst panicked and went to a guy that would say yes.
That worked well last time with Eichorst and Riley. It's time to have a Nebraska guy back in charge of our athletics who understands the culture and go get Frost. This helps the chances of getting Frost in a big way.
First of all-no he didn't hire Connie Yori. Yori was a Bill Byrne hire. Baseball gaining ground? Very slowly. It took us 6 years to get us our first B1G Championship and we fail year after year in the postseason. Miles-OK lets see what you say about that one if we don't improve this year from where we've been the last few years. Everyone wanted Bo? Maybe over Turner Gill, but that was only because everyone knew those were the only two options. That in itself was the problem with his football hire.Maybe I'm a minority, but I think T.O did a fine job as AD. Maybe wrong on this. Hired Erstad. Baseball was a joke before, gaining ground. Hired Miles, brought to rhe dance, which we havent seen since Nee days, and yes there is talent on the basketball team. Could Miles have been more successful? Probably. Brought.in Bo, who i thought everone wanted. Won 9 games every yr. Not sure on this one didn't he hire Connie Yori?? So overall, thought TO did a fine job

Anderson was a horrible baseball coach. Miles did have a 10 day stretch, that we hadn't had In 20 years.. I'm not defending Bo on all his antics, but he wore his heart on a sleeve, hated losing. I thought Bo at the time was the right hire.. I agree, it was time for him to go. But I do appreciate what he did at Nebraska.Pelini was an *** clown. It was an easy hire that backfired
Erstad is what he is, but Anderson had some good years before falling off the final 3 seasons.
Miles is a horrible coach, who caught lightning in a bottle for a day 10 stretch one February.
Of course Anderson was a horrible baseball coach. His running the program into the ground meant a low bar for Erstad-which he's only barely cleared.Anderson was a horrible baseball coach. I've gone on record before saying I think this is the permanent hire.
Dave don't want no cock tease, for one. If we need a change of coaching at the end of this year, the permanent AD would probably have to be seated within 30 days or so (there are less than 60 days of regular season left) to have any sort of "on the ground" time to "evaluate the staff/season". 30 days of "permanent" AD gives 4 games to evaluate before making the decision and getting out in front of the coaching wave.
Unless ole Dave signed up for a 7-21 day temp job, I think this is it boys.
Brett Bielima, proceed to Paul Chryst, proceed to Mike Riley. What that tells me is that he thought he had his guy all locked up, there was no need for a search firm. But maybe his wife would have united the male fan base. Not sure Bielema was ever in play. I think his personality and reputation didn't quite fit in at Nebraska, especially following Pelini. I don't view Bielema as a "uniter"
Actually, I think he had an agreement that after Wannstadt got fired from the Dolphins, he would be the guy. Eichorst fired Blow, Wanny got a contract extension after the season, so told Eichorst he was no longer interested, then they went after Bi-enema, Cyst and I think talked to Peterson as well.Brett Bielima, proceed to Paul Chryst, proceed to Mike Riley.

No way in hell Chryst leaves Wiskyland for Nebraska. He'd have to get fired first.
make him turn down an extra 1.5-2 million per year or at least give him ammo to extort that much more $ out of ole Barry
fwiw, i had heard Paul Chryst was only interested in Wiscy in the big ten. it was reported in the twin cities that he turned down gophers when they were looking (ended up with jerry kill).
Looks like Dave Rimington has been named interim AD.
