A big disappointment but no surprise to my fellow Cal supporters. His family very strongly wanted him to go to Cal but his dream school is Oregon and Cal cannot compete with them on purely a football basis. A player of his caliber is thinking NFL and while good players can be drafted out of any school why not play for one competing on a top level national stage? A good part of Cal's recruiting message is the value of a degree from a top university in the world (while U of Oregon is not even within sniffing distance of Cal) and while many players value that the elite are many times only concerned with staying eligible long enough to get drafted (and yes, Cal has had players like that too). And with the advent of NIL and the recent House decision the value of high school recruiting has been diminished. Now, schools can see how a player has done on the college level as opposed to high school and make a play for them in the portal. Cal will not give up on Tofi and maybe he'll transfer. You never know.
